I don't understand why some people would think crouching and not moving during an engagement would be a good idea. If you're not used to watching snipers do their thing you won't have seen this. I'm a sniper by choice, but run scout most of the time. I also have a Samurai Commando and it comes prefitted with a State Rail Rifle and a State Sniper Rifle. When I switch to the SR, the same message always comes up no matter what the suit - crouch to steady the aim. You don't have to crouch with a SR to fire it, and with good skills the sway is almost negligible, but to get it completely steady you have to crouch.
I think somewhere along the line someone has started telling people that crouching is good. Even with a normal rifle, crouching narrows the spread. Try it some time and you'll see. Of course that's not a good thing to do in battle. But there are those who say ADS is also not good, and I can guarantee that it makes your aim 10 times better at distance. ADS is what makes RRs deadly at range. Not moving also narrows the spread. Running is the worst. For best aim, crouching and/or ADS is virtually required. But also virtually a death sentence.
People surely won't take much time to discover this... I would hope. |

I definitely crouched a lot when started the game and used the heavy because I hated that wide circle showing me where the bullets go , and crouching makes it smaller.
I don't do it any more because after I while I hated things that slow you down because you are asking for death.
Yes, crouching is only for noobs or for special situations where it's required for good distance aim. Otherwise, it's just ridiculous and deadly. |

Crouching is a scruby tactic from COD and Battlefield, where is useful... In new eden is suicide I play battlefield and I just laugh when people do it there, it's like they think I can't aim downward o.O Crouching makes you a smaller target, narrows the spread, improves your aim and generally does lots of things that could be good in the right circumstances. The problem is when someone does it in the middle of a road.... |

The problem is when someone does it in the middle of a road.... This person ran away from me after I started to shoot at him and ran around a wall. He stopped no more than 15 meters from the corner of the wall, turned around and crouched to get ready to shoot me when I came around the corner. It didn't work out for him because I have a Precision Enhancer equipped to all of my Assault Suits so I was able to see his location on my tacnet. Upon coming around the corner I immediately threw a Thukker Grenade directly at him and watched him get blown to smithereens. This person was not in the right circumstances to try crouching during an engagement. There are no "right" circumstances to crouch in the middle of a battle. Crouching to steady aim is exclusively for distance aiming, either with a sniper rifle or something like a rail rifle although ADS is all that's required for a rail rifle, and it's certainly not appropriate to be used as a "surprise" tactic....
By the way, I saw the same thing today. Right there in the middle of a battle, some fool was squatting to aim. Not with a SR, but with just a normal rifle of some sort. They died, because someone else took them out and they were too slow to get out of the way. |
