You can do this (be a mercenary) in EVE too; however, there are drawbacks to keep people from abusing / faction hoping between factions.

1. This is a real world definition of 'mercenary', which is what we are. Read it again, SLOWLY, and try to understand each word as you do so.
2. Dust is a VIDEO GAME.

Yes, this is the usual argument for what's happening in FW. Unfortunately, it actually flies completely against the point and design of FW. How can we have "Loyalty Points" and a "Loyalty Store" if there's no "Loyalty"? |

Dust is a VIDEO GAME. The problem for you is that there are many who feel that neither Dust nor EvE are just video games. People live their lives for such "video games" as Dust and EvE. Some even go so far as to carry conflicts from within the game into real life. Pray that noone takes offence at what you say and tracks you down!
Yes, Dust and EvE are video games, but then life is a game, viewed from a certain perspective. Personally, I'm all for finding these people and teaching them a lesson.
In Dust, of course. :) |

I didn't challenge your definition of mercenary you ******.
Do you want me to give you a real world definition of treachery? |

Well you obviously don't fully understand the definition, otherwise you would understand that the word 'treachery' is irrelevant, in this case.

Either you don't know what the word treason means or you are under some false impression that a mercenary can not be charged with treason. |

What treason is being committed if a mercenary fulfils his/her contract? Within New Eden, a mercenary's whole career consists of fighting for different factions. For example, one time you're contracted to fight for Republic Security Service, and the next for True Power, and another for Serpentis Corporation. Is this constant switching of sides also an act of treachery? A mercenary's loyalty lasts as long as his/her contract.
