I've been playing constantly in both pubs and CFW and have noticed something which initially I couldn't comprehend. But over time, I think I've figured out that matches are actually unbalanced by design.
Today was particularly bad - I played at least 10 cfw matches and a few pubs. My team in all of them lost, with the exception of just one CFW match and one pub match which were just as one-sided in the other direction. But without exception, the winning side had stompers of one form or another, squads of them. It was pure luck that I managed to find myself on the winning side twice, because I run solo, and get placed in whichever team has a hole that needs a player. CFW
But how do all the squads find themselves on the one side at least in pubs? How is that even possible, with a matching system that's supposed to make sure the sides are even? It's obviously not. In fact, it would require that the matching system is actually designed to do this. So why would CCP deliberately design the matching system to put all the squads on one side? My guess is that it's the way CPM wants it. It would be simple enough to code, because all the matching is done on the servers. They could just change the code in a simple downtime update....

TooMany Names AlreadyTaken wrote:Matchmaking was "improved" a few patches back, but if you ask me, it was actually WORSENED and transformed into the worst I have ever seen. Well, I think the term "Matchmaking" is grossly misused here. It's not so much matchmaking as culling selection. |

Aramis Madrigal wrote:I was under the impression that factional warfare is on a first come first served basis and is not subject to matchmaking of any kind. No I don't think there's any matchmaking as such in FW. The unbalanced matches in FW are because of people leaving the losing side to fight for the winning side - no "loyalty". I started off the thread talking about unbalanced matches generally, but the unbalanced matchmaking is in the pubs, I think. |

Just stay and have fun, I mean, even I can have fun against a legion of protostompers and jumpy massass.
Edit: Just saw you said FW. Point still stabds somewhat. Yes, FW is a different matter, and I talked about that in another thread. I fight for Caldari and it seems everyone is leaving the Caldari side to join Gallente. I've seen players who I used to fight with now fighting for the opposition, so I know it's happening.
As for the pubs, I don't mind staying and fighting, if I'm dumped into a match that's half over and I'm on the losing side, but I tend to make a lot of my WP hacking and most of that happens in the first 2 minutes. Dumped into a match that only has 5 or 10 minutes more to go, I run the very real risk of not making the 150 minimum to register for SP. In that time, however, I will often die multiple times due to the fact that I'm replacing someone who left for the very real reason that they were being totally stomped by the other team. Staying and fighting seems both counterproductive and encouraging of the stomping, which I fundamentally am opposed to. |
