I've been bleating about this for ever, at the very least they can make it so these things disappear when placed above a certain elevation (from either ground level or the objective, whichever is lower), or put that super annoying goop that slowly damages you all over the 'trouble spots' - you know because CCP play this game all the time and are aware of these spots...
You're 100% right - on some maps it seems like the only way to guarantee victory is to be a rooftop camping *****, and this simply shouldn't be the case - there should be no - guaranteed win tactics - it should be who fights hardest!
Just look at PC/Factional - this is where this type of behaviour is bred - try hard gimps in douchebag corps perpetuating this sort of filth simply because it gets them the 'win'.. what's the point of a victory when there is no opposition!? |

- Roof in Dust are flat, it is easy for roof caers to hide from shooters on the ground.
- Roof are reachable only with Dropships.
- Roof campers spam uplinks so they can keep camping.
Possible fix to the problem:Uplinks cant be placed on roofs. This is so simple. Sign up if you hate what roof camping is doing to our matches. Sign up if you want a better Dust. the issue will be resolved in 1.3, but you have to get your central nervous system removed for a year

Actually, we are not talking about how you should deal with roofcampers. We are talking about improving the gameplay for everyone, when people dont roofcamp matcher are like 10x funnier. I think we can all agree here.

Ok yes I believe that is what I am thinking about.
For sure battles can be much better without the rooftop camping but honestly even putting rooftop camping aside I find the best games are the even or closely fought ones.
It doesnt matter so much to me who is doing what and where so long as there is fairly equal and opposite reactions in the game. If one squad of enemies camps and another attacks, this can still bring good gameplay as long as on my team there is one squad that attacks/defends and one squad goes after roof campers or tries to counter in some way.
I think what you are getting at is when everyone is on the same level fighting there is much more that can be done by lower sp players to combat the enemy. Thus the battle has more deaths everywhere on both sides and that is what makes a good game. |

I think you should be allowed to stay om the roof if you got there with a dropship. Not allowing you to put uplinks already fixes the problem but still allows you to use that tactic.

Signed
Also, for those saying "just fly a dropship so my buddies and i can swarm you to death long before you reach us, and milk more warpoints", F*ck you!
Dropships, especially for new flyers, are coffins! The controls are difficult even on default, and the price for a new player is pretty high just to watch it go up in smoke repeatedly. You and 6 others are up there with proto AV and weapons with healing hives and ammo, but you advocate he flies up there in militia? Yeah that's fair?!
Hit detection in this game is out right comical, but i'm supposed to have the patience to start sniping lol! Forge guns are effective, but scouts will kill you from behind. I could go back to tank sniping with railgun, but then AVers cry about redline tankers.
CCP needs to change?update the dropship controls to make flying the coroner ship a little more viable for newer players. I gun for one of the best pilots in the game quite often, and even he has a hard time controlling dropships. For new players getting off the ground is difficult, and most pilots can testify to having to dedicate hours, if not weeks, to practicing without being hit.
Swarms are hold R1.....
So can we agree that for a new player clearing the roof isn't as simple. Even for a vet we gotta be on comms to do it. Solo players can't do it without an ADS(Assault dropship) which cost tons more than your MD and Swarm combo. Thank god the minmando no longer has swarm bonus, but that doesn't stop him from equipping them all the same.
The fact of the problem is this is more a dom issue than anything else really, and in my opinion to many of you play dom to camp kills all day.
So Signed also for the petition against dom that is sure to come soon. This roof camping primarily goes on in domination! Some kind of way you've all been trick into getting mass drivered, sniped, and laser rifled in dom all day lol! Play skirm! He can camped C all day, but will lose if he doesn't take another point. In dom there's slim chance of any pilot surviving that barrage of AV coming at him from half the team.
It's a full proof plan with few counters to take a 4 man squad into dom with roof camping commandos and camp open ground with MD's and AV. The nerve of some of you to suggest guys waste isk flying their heads into a wall is absurd. Not to mention as pilot and gunner you can't see the ground/roof troops until you've already been swarmed, forged, railgunned, and scanned lol! There's a serious rendering issue that has existed since Rhadamanthus played, and CCP has yet to fix it.
While I advocate squading up and working together, I also understand that squading isn't always feasible for everyone. We must be fair to solo players, and encourage squading to them as well.
I must say though that I have to agree that roof camping in dom has gotten to be an epidemic, almost as aggrevating as modded controllers.

It's just who has the best spot to camp in order to win. Before the AR, LR, CR got nerfed i remember killing people off the mushroom in biomass. Palatinate, one of the best rail rifle users that loved to camp the mushroom to defend the acid pits and the playstation building objective. Me not having the RR at the time... but i had a CR, it was good enough to bother him from the ground in order for my team mates to hack. It was good times, weapons did what weapons were suppose to do. If that scenario was in today's weapon meta, i would be sh*t out of luck because the only way to compete to his rail rifle is if i had a rail rifle too, otherwise he would outgun me and be able to camp there the whole game unless i go up close and personal wasting unnecessary resources and to me that is just an inconvenience and bullsh*t. It's not even fun to play. But hey yall gotta deal with the eve lore. Aye. Weapons had their uniqueness and that was a good time in that meta. I remember you contesting me and protecting your bros since I had less dps than you. Your CR was truly something to fear, but my RR just as much. Good times.

I agree that rooftop camping is lame and can really make a match boring
But it is a strategy that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't
I was in a Dom match yesterday where there was an assault forge gunner guarding the obj from a high location
This was a rare time when it was actually a lot of fun trying to counter by either counter forging or in my case calling in a Rail tank to take some shots at him and give him something else to shoot at
We did end up winning this match as after we contained the campers we took control of the city obj |

To counter this, I would just add more ladders to stuff, or make high ground more generally accessible by foot.

Not for nothin, but it is assuming to think it's no fun for everyone. Obviously it is for someone or they wouldn't do it.
Annoying? Sure. But I enjoy the challenge of finding an indirect spot sniping those lil turtleheads when they pop up.
I'm surprised at the names advocating this. Options have been given for counter but some of you b!tch like little 5 year old girls with a keyboard. That's just weird lol.
Im curious. Who spawns rooftops with swarms up front on the off chance someone may pull a DS? I can see after getting killed by one then looking for revenge, but do you actually face 2 or more players just sitting idle indefinately, camping objective roofs ...with swarms?
What was that old saying from way back when? HTCU? No.. That's not right.... Seriously though, why homogenize more? Argue for ladders. Add. Not subtract. Especially when there ARE counter measures. I'm really just shocked at what I'm reading.

I always wondered why the hell people don't just fly up and clear the roof it's simple. Everyone has acces to milita drops ships but never use them... When a couple people on a roof are holding a whole team back it makes me laugh and think these guys are pathetic.
Multiple levels keep the game from being a meat grinder on every map... Imagine if every socket was the rabbit hole map
It would be boring and repetitive and the only suitable fits would be logis, heavy's, mass drivers, and re fits.
So sitting on a roof is not boring to you? You sound like a fun person. I think we found a camper. |

We just need more god damn ladders and vantage points (Gameplay counters) you dont even need to nerf the gameplay of roof camping just give us viable options to attack and counter.
Assuming the roof campers have sufficient AV I believe you have two viable options to attack as it is right now.
1. Fly cheap derpship stupidly high above said roof campers, jump out and activate inertia damps at the very last possible second for maximum surprise.
2. Fly expensive well fit ADS or DS with gunners and try and take out the uplinks and force the people off the roof and/or deliver a raiding party but you will be 100% committed if you take this route. All in, very hard to retreat if they have great AV.
If we had a few more ladders and vantage points across the maps then we would have I think enough ways to take out the roof campers.
I have had great games of roof camping and counter roof camping where possession of the high ground keeps changing and makes insanely fun battles but this is a once in a blue moon occasion lets be honest. |
