I know I mentioned some of this on the discussion board, but I figured I'd try to flesh out the idea a bit and post it here.
I'll also apologize if someone else has already brought this up.
There was some talk of Missions where you couldn't use Pro suits (primarily to benefit newbies and keep them from being completely stomped).
What if this was generalized into different categories?
- Nothing better than Militia grade equipment
- No Pro equipment
- No Militia equipment
- Hard limit on per Fit costs (fitted DropSuits must cost between X and Y, Ground Vehicles must cost between X and Y, Dropships must cost between X and Y, with vehicle/dropship X and Y both being able to be set to zero to exclude those from combat)
- Hard limit on TOTAL Fit costs per Merc - like above, but applied to the running op. Die to often and you won't be able to respawn into anything better than Militia, no matter what your stock looks like.
- Hard limit on TOTAL Fit costs per Mercenary Group - like above, but with a pool of $$$ applied to the whole group, similar to the Non-Skirmish (can't remember the game type right now) spawn count.
I'm sure some this might be a better idea than others (the "No Militia" idea was actually what spawned the whole train of thought).
I suppose you could think of these as "Contract Parameters". The person contracting for the Mercenaries service might be only willing to pay for certain things. I suppose the other question is, do these apply to both sides, or just one, or does it depend on the Contract/Battle?

Or you could just make it so Proto and advanced gear can't be used ti high sec. So that way it's kept at a noob friendly level.
Only militia and standard equipment can be used in high sec, while all equipment can be used in low/ null sec.
Just like how you can use capital ships or titans in high sec. |

I'll admit my ignorance of the EvE universe, and say "um ... sure ... maybe"?
I suppose it would also be possible for a contract to exclude specific DropSuit classes (Scout/Assault/Heavy/Logi/Pilot), Weapons, or Vehicle Classes, which might be an easier way than having separate pools of ISK for DS & Vehicles?
After I wrote the post, while walking the dog (great time for contemplation and meditation), I realized that there is also the option for "Environmental Conditions" that will effect battles.
Things like:
- Low(er) Gravity world - everything moves faster, jumps higher/farther
- High(er) Gravity world - opposite of the above
- Atmospheric Conditions grounding DropShips (and I'm proposing this as a prospective DS pilot )
- Even worse Atmospheric Conditions "grounding" transports that deliver Ground Vehicles.
- Atmospheric Conditions affecting shields (I don't know enough about EvE science/pseudo science to properly phrase this :) ).
- Atmospheric Conditions affecting Armor (acidic atmosphere weakening armor?)
Again, sorry if this is either expected, or has already been suggested. Just thought it might be an interesting set of ideas, and didn't know enough not to suggest them. |

CCP isn't in the business of limiting much, that's why the Sandbox is so successful in EVE. I really don't see this sort of limitations ever happening. |

what appeals to me about dust514 is the anything goes as long as you have the money. Kinda like the real world. I want to see a group of all militia gear troops defeat a all proto geared team.
I had a lot of fun on monday and tuesday reading about the history of eve. The real history, the player history. How this was lost because a commander made a wrong decision, or this group came up with a novel new defense/offensive. I want to see a large corp in eve on the ropes and a small group of dust mercs come in , demand huge sums of money and reck shop in what ever gear they want.
Also what if eve corps start requiring all protogear for all types of contracts to make sure they win. Then some may not be able to even take contracts because the risk reward is to high. I like that it's real, not as in real life but actually real. When I go to, lets say a hotel, I have requirements to be fullfilled, they may be they may not be. But that will determain what will happen next time. I don't get my sheets cleaned or the service is not up to par. I may complain but in reality my only real recourse is to not use that hotel chain or post online about how it sucks.
So merc's should be able to use what ever they feel will get there job done best. If they do not get the job done to a satisfactory manner then they will not be used again. And from what I can tell even though New Eden is a whole galaxy, word travels fast. I also don't want to be in a situation were I have to use proto gear, but I know this contract will not be able to pay enough to cover my losses.
TL;DR: What the world has been fighting about since the dawn of time FREEDOM. |

I hear ya. Sorry ... I keep forgetting what kind of game Dust and Eve are. Ok, scratch the ISK/contract limitations, what about the different planetary/environmental conditions that can influence/shape the battle? (or does that fall under the category of "limiting"?) |
