If you press the 'SHOW INFO' There should be a rating on how much people trust that player.

Then couldn't people just screw people over by giving them bad ratings...

I do get what you are going for but I have to say no.
Let's say you were underselling me and stealing my buisness. I get a hold of all my mates, corps members and people I just pay off and they give you a poor rating. Now all of a sudden you are rated as extremely untrustworthy and nobody would trade with you. On the flip side, I could get my rating sky rocketed and be rated as the most trustworthy.
Now I do not have the ability to do this, but some of the massive corps would use this exploit and use their high rating to either scam or drive prices higher.

I'm not trying to pick apart your idea, but the flaw is how do we track a successful trade?

That wasn't my point.
My point was that there is no way to tell if a trade was successful as it is a send ISK/Item then wait for them to reciprocate. For all you know, I could of traded you something from another player then sent him the isk you sent me.

I like your thinking, Jastech. I have a funny feeling the Devs like it too. It's just "too early". Let me explain.
Eve-Online has a system of player rule/behavior enforcement that punishes malicious players. It's called the DeD. They also have a "criminal flag" concept in their game that tags players with symbols or info in their data description that other players can recognize as "bad" or "traitorous" or "non-trustable" players. But that didn't happen right away. It took YEARS to put something like that into full-effect, and even then, it seems (SEEMS) to be based on "the player community doing the biggest part of developing their OWN system of ratings and protection,GǪ and CCP giving them a little help at the end as icing on the cake".
It takes the player community to build their own rating and filtering method, before they can present proper requests to CCP that the devs can build and provide for them. The PLAYERS over the years, helped CCP develop the right "trust rating" devices.
GǪDust is still very young in Trading. In fact, we just started. It's going to take a few years to migrate from just demanding a solution from CCP, to learning enough about ourselves to form our own method of filtering the scammers, and finally "help" CCP design an official device that makes our filtering method complete.
What we come up with, should be interesting. But it will take a LOT more time,GǪ just like EVE-Online.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

It wouldn't go both ways. It'd be like the likes feature on these forums and Facebook et al. You either place a vote or remove it.

A player based rating system will be abused, no doubt about it. This game is infested with dicks that think "Oh we'll be like EVE and screw people over" not realizing that EVE isn't entirely the lawless land it's made out to be. Not realizing the only reason someone can get screwed in a trade is if they're either stupid enough to use the direct player trade with a player they don't know or if they're not paying enough attention in the market. In Dust we don't have the luxury of a proper market so we're left with only the chance to get screwed.
Jonny D Buelle wrote:Jaztech wrote:How about a system the determines the number of successful trades?
I'm not trying to pick apart your idea, but the flaw is how do we track a successful trade? Well if we had a proper market like in EVE Online, it'd be easy to track; but then we wouldn't need that system.
Most of what I see around here is just a bag of dicks in need of some kicks.
Dust really needs its high sec.

Main problem with rating systems in a FPS is trolling. Someone gets killed in a game and downvotes you just for that rather than your legitimacy of trading.
People rage and get butt hurt too much in FPS games, hence no "Dislike" button. Some 12 year old would spend a week creating alts just to downvote you 150 times.
There needs to be a better way to do transactions, window with offers from both sides, then confirmation to complete trade from both sides.

The use of a third party would be easier, I believe a veteran player with a respectable corp history will do a good job as long as he gets a small fee (i.e. 500k from each player), he will just focus on making profit from scaling his trade.
