I found this post from a player. Now that Eve DUST 514 is finally expanding its New Eden atmosphere for hauling, passive-generating, trading-management, and deception of clueless victims... I think CCP and we players (...it has to be a combined thing, not just a task foisted on devs)... owe it to the game to build a distinct "Lobby style" section of our game for New Player Quarantine and Academy Graduate Handicapping. Why use prejudicial words like "quarantine" and "handicap"? The player's post says the WHY quite clearly:
"...The Kids who could potentially ruin Dust0514, won't be able to hack the depth of it..."
We've all seen things similar to:
Turret-gunners on my vehicle trying relentlessly to shoot down the enemy MCC in a Faction Warfare match...
Blue players choosing Dom and Ambush matches to test out their new vehicles and toys in the safe back area, when those matches require ringside participation from every player.
Players about to join you in your FW squad asking on the Chat Channel how you swap to a different dropsuit in their menu, or asking what an uplink is.
Forum members protesting that FW matches should be more balanced to allow solo-play, because they want to reap the more intricate rewards of loyalty rank and loyalty store items without having to deliver any "loyalty" to the co-op structure of FW and PC modes.
Five identical Deployables thrown on top of each other on the same roof, or around the same Supply Depot or CRU, not in an attempt to farm, but in a sincere but wasted attempt to defend or nano-repair the installation.
25% of the Blue players "leaving" the match, once too many Blue players retreat to the rear area as "snipers", or too many players sit out the match in the blue staging area (possibly too traumatized to participate down at ringside any more.)
A certain amount of "trauma" and combat-shock is a GOOD thing. It shows that Dust is successfully more vicious and challenging an fps than whatever "toughguy" shooter you thought you were great at before.
But if the players are traumatized and clueless because they were let out into matches without knowing "what this mode entails", harm falls not only on "The New Player's Experience" but also on "The Vested Player's Infrastructure". The players who've invested and secured assets and forces for themselves, can't afford to have their assets/corp-members/battle-progress/resources scuppered by epidemic Newberry exposure into nearly every deeper part of the game.
These may seem like hurtful concepts, but they aren't. Much like Eve-Online seems to do, Newberry presence in the game must be quarantined safely from the deeper areas of player activity, or their participation in the teams RESTICTED to only certain types of activity. This can create a slower PROGRESSION up through the matches (OR successfully close out the casual player who really doesn't want to accidentally unlock the more complicated levels of gameplay).
I'd like to maintain this running list of proposals I have for RE-working the front end of this cool game, from the famous Battle Academy phase through to FW phase----this is the most critical area, yet easiest to change area of player-progression. Hopefully CCP will have strong interest in these suggestions, because it effects the retention of players as much as it effects OUR interest in continuing the fighting we enjoy. Too many of the matches feel like a dam is about to burst, flooding the higher-tier gameplay with helpless newberry players, which is corroding the matches and the behavior of ALL the players,... damage which the Newberrys honestly don't mean to cause.
"...The Kids who could potentially ruin Dust-514, won't be able to hack the depth of it..."

Newberrys need plenty of time to grow accustomed to the weapons of Militia warfare, long enough to decide if they want to become committed to Dust's deeper gameplay, and decide HOW they want to begin that development (through SP-training in narrower specialized skills, or through social interaction with more experienced players and corps to learn good player habits).
Casual players just want to have fun immersing themselves in the atmosphere of sci-fi shooting and sound effects. They don't want the game to become more complicated than that, and aren't particularly interested in unlocking deeper modes of matches, or investing heavily in some sort of SP grind. Dust is their casual way to unwind, and they don't benefit in any way if they unlock new sections and have the game to increase in difficulty.
The recent player event asked players to score 514 kills within one week. A significant number of us did that quite quickly. 50 WP X 514 Kills equals just over 25,000 wp. That means, even if the WP threshold were raised to 50,000 WP, a tenacious or addicted Beginner-player could progress right out of Battle Academy in just over 14 days of playing. Oh, my Lourde!!
If Academy progression is going to be based solely on a WP threshold, I propose raising that WP threshold to something HIGHER than 50,000. This ought to lengthen the mild experience for the Newberrys (the players who've decided to commit themselves to Dust long-term), and quarantine them in Battle Academy for at least a month.
At the same time, it can turn the Battle Academy into a nearly-permanent arena for the Casual players (the players who don't want rail-rifle proficiency Lvl 18, nor warbarge components, corp or PC stuff, and are happily entertained just to get deluxe load-out dropsuit in salvage now and then), so casual players can visit the Dust environment they enjoy as many times as they like, with much less chance of running into a wall of tougher rules and matches by accidentally unlocking post-grad gameplay.

If the intention is to use a 50,000 -75,000 WP threshold to "RETAIN" New players in the Battle Academy much longer, and possibly "LOCK" casual players in there near-permanently...
It's only right that every new player should get the maximum storyline and imaginative fun at the very first stage of the game.
The initial immersion into the game should be HEAVILY atmospheric and Lore-driven whenever possible. Even though I understand that CCP is reluctant to "teach" people a strict way of playing the game, you should want to "sell" customers on the intriguing New Eden and Racial slant of the game. The benefits are:
--The casual player gets nearer to 100% imagination and Lore-driven escapism and entertainment from this game (instead of being "just another shooter-fun way to unwind").
--The player who comes to the game without any expectations can be sold on the imagination of the game enough to COMMIT to being a long-term grinder and not just another casual player. The vivid storyline behind the game will motivate her to become a Duster, or even become a Capsuleer, and not just be a player who visited for a while, and left.
Rename "Daily Missions" (an old EVE-Online style term) to "Standing Contracts", or "NPC Daily Contracts". Contracts is the more relevant Dust-slanted term, and gets players to realizing this game is about contributing and hiring one's skills.
All these daily "missions" shoudl be issued by a Lore entity. (Guristas contract to kill 30 enemy; Sisters of Eve recruitment search to hack 30 installations; Ishukone research study pays to destroy 6 installations, etc).
All CCP Player Events should be Lore-scripted and shown in the introduction splash, just like the most-recent 514-Kills event was.
The video in the NewCom options menu should be replaced with the "Way of the Mercenary" video, or the "Origins" video. These are the two videos that more clearly carry the Dust (and EVE) explanations and atmosphere.
Two very first emails should appear in every New player's Inbox by default, the moment they have set up their character account. One from "Jara Kumora", giving them the Dust forum website and Eve-Online website addresses and advising that the sites should be visited often for exclusive info about the changing events ins New Eden. The other should be from "Aura", briefly explaining that a player is more rewarded for finding way to work with other players and help therm win matches. New Eden combat is not about going it alone.

DeD Citizen Ranking System:
I donGÇÖt want Dust 514 to be a copy of EVE OnlineGÇÖs game componentsGǪ but I do like the DeD concept that is used to limit player malice and help players GÇ£policeGÇ¥ the game environment. We should be provided with a DeD-based player ranking system that helps the in-game community identify GÇ£players youGÇÖd do best not to rely on or have faith inGÇ¥. Call it:
The GÇ£DeD Citizen RankingGÇ¥. It should appear as part of the GÇ£Show InfoGÇ¥ for any player you access in you Merc Quarters.
GÇ£High LoyaltyGÇ¥ on the characterGÇÖs DeD Citizen Ranking should be awarded for any Charcter whoGÇÖs been on Dust longer than 2 years AND has passed FW Standing Level-5 in any one of the Factions.
GÇ£Of Good StandingGÇ¥ should be the neutral status that the average decent player should earn.
GÇ£Low LoyaltyGÇ¥ should be given to a Character who has lost excessive Loyalty-Standing percentage, due to changing opposing Factions in FW play too much.
GÇ£Criminal FlagGÇ¥ is a ranking awarded to Characters who have done excessive-leaving in the matches AND have lost excessive Loyalty-Standing due to flip-flopping Factions too much in FW matches.
GÇ£DeD BountyGÇ¥ is a status that should be given to Characters who have committed excessive GÇ£leavingGÇ¥ AND excessive GÇ£kicked from matchGÇ¥ combined. CCP could implement a 1000 WP (or 100,000 ISK) award for any player who kills this character when she appears on the opposing team in your match.
The only player behavior that should influence this ranking is the excessive GÇ£leavingGÇ¥ of the matches, excessive GÇ£kicking-outGÇ¥ of the FW matches due to the usual negligence against fellow mercs, and the strong commitment to at least one of the four Factions in FW play.
Whether the ranking should be attached to each of your GÇ£In-game CharacterGÇ¥ individually, or attached to your GÇ£Player AccountGÇ¥ (and effect all your alts systematically), is something CCP would have to think over.
