Have a breif negative tone sound out when trying to lock onto targets outside of lock on range.
Reasoning: When trying to lock on to an object, a swarmer has to wait to hear a beep confirming the lock is in progress.
If the target is outside of that range the swarmer is stuck observing the target, exposed for at least several seconds wiating for the lock-on timer that may never come, unessecarily exposing him/ her to Anti Infantry for no reasoon.
Having a negative tone means a swarmer can look at a target, immediatley tell if it is out of range, and going back to doing what ever swarmers do, be it repositioning or swicthing back to an anti infantry weapon. Which is much better than standing aound wondering why swarms wont lock and get blapped in the process.
Rather get the easy to obtain opinion of GD before taking it over to Features and Ideas.

The aspects that made swarms OP are being adressed. My stance on those have been long standing.
That doesn't mean I dont use swarms. There are some terribly frustrating parts of using swarms that can be fixed.
Swarmers leave themselves exposed when getting a lock. Risk your self for AI vs Reward for attacking AV.
Standing out in the open trying to lock onto say, a dropship at 180 m or a rail turret at 160 is 100% risk and no reward.
Warning players from standing out in the open trying to get a lock on target thats out of range adresses that. It also helps the new bros i see catching rail gun turrets to the face
Would rather give swarmers a chance than keep have them complain about how "dangerous" it is and how they got killed by some scout. It always seems to lead them to demand more broken gameplay mechanics, like 250m lock so that they can feel "safe" rather than any effective warning system that adresses what they are complaining about.

maybe deadcatz wrote:Consider how frail a drop ship is. Then consider the stats of a swarm(damage and missile volley) The consider the ever so annoying "infantry will not render till within 150(close). By the time you get within render distance for troops, you're already in swarm range. And you still have to: Choose a target. Align your turret and ads(or passenger turrets) Bop them on the head with a missile.(course blast radius is short)
I know all of this, I'm a pilot as well.
What you are not articulating is what does flying a dropship have to do with warning a swarmer that his intended target is not in range, so dont stand out there with swarms out for no reason.
Its not a damage buff, or range buff, or timer buff. Just a notification that what you are trying , be it a dropship 180m in the air or a trying to lock onto tank more that 175 m away, even if still in the open is not going to work.

maybe deadcatz wrote:You want a lock in warning? Good luck,if you look at the forum posts you'll notice that the devs never respond to small fix posts. Its mostly the qq threads that happen to be popular that they even open up.
Sure, its just a novel idea. At least its an option, as soon as the "god mode dropship laugh a swarms please buff 400 m lock because chromesome" threads pop up ,and they always do, i'll have this little nugget typed out.
CPM2 are reliable enough that if they take notcie, and like it, it will probably get sugessted to Ratatti.
I dont think breakin or darth carbonite would object to improvements that dont screw with AV/V interaction.

isn't the LACK of beeping/lock an indication they aren't in range?
Yes. That doesnt mean people dont stand out there waiting for a beep that doesnt come.
Its not a big change, but a small one that may help.
- Pull out swarms to hit tank - Negative tone - Swicth to light weapon and re position
compared to
- Pull out swarms to hit tank - Wait for tone 1-2 seconds for tone - Looks like he's in range, am i? - try again, another 1-2 seconds no tone - Check with light weapon - Repostion

Hmmm...where do we see a similar problem...
NEXT!!!
I have no idea how what you're talking about has to do with what i am talking about.
You're banging on about infantry render distance from the air.
I'm talking about an audible notification that your intended swarm target is out of range.
Pretty unrelated things.
