Here's is what AV ranges look like from a birds eye view.
Lots of people talk about ranges being to close or too far, so I took a map and drew pretty circles on it to show the following ranges all relative to Alpha on the Bridge Map, aka spine crescent.
- 516 m: That was my longest death i made a thread about last week.
- 400 m: Swarm travel distance.
- 300 m Forge Gun/ Rail Turret range.
- 250 m: Is what I have seen proposed as a swarm lock on range, so I put it in to demonstrate how far that actually is.
- 150 m: Current Swarm lock on range.
Methodology: Took some in game pics and figured the ranges from there. Easy enough for the longer ranges, but unfortunatley the game i took pics in doesnt have the same socket, so some guess work was involved. Its as accurate as I could figure, give or take a few meters or so. I'm sure you lot will tell me how wrong am I am anyway.
All Pics included in the album.

You forgot one of the dimensions, z plane. And I'm fairly certain the measurements are off. |

Please explain how he is expected to represent the z plane effectively on a 2D map.
Then, after that, you can explain why you think it's relevant when with the exception of dropships the differences are likely sub-10m.

You can extrapolate from the given diagram.
Besides air space has no real variation in this game so unless you are talking about being in or underneath a socket, it really does not make sense to show that anyway.
Crude but effective picture Tesfa. Thanks. It is good to visualise. I wasn't aware that parts of the 'rings' in the city complex were out of range from the bridge for the forge gun.
The render distance for enemies when using the forge is sometimes less than its range anyway (less than 300m render range?) if I remember correctly? |

The first two infantry pictures don't really demonstrate the range all that well. I mean we can see the blurry range on the objective but there's a hill right between the clones face and the objective.
the second two could do with you standing a bit more to the left.
Your range overlay seems to be off a bit as well, there's about a quarter inch more space between 150m and 250m (on my 1920x1080 screen) than there is 300m and 400m.
On a side note I still believe you're furthest death is either because of your dropship falling away from the person that killed you or that person moving away from you after dealing the killing blow. I mean hell I got killed by a RE that said the dude was 40m away and I know the frisbee don't fly that far.
Most of what I see around here is just a bag of dicks in need of some kicks.
Dust really needs its high sec.

i'll take the constructive criticism with both hands, because all I could do was give a good relative range with the limited tools I had. They were certainly not going to be spot on each.
that said when it comes to area denial I think it shows relatively accurately how much are can be denied just from alpha, let alone a red dot on a tower on either side.
150 m has really been the sweet spot, close enough to engage from the air but far enough to be driven far away if not outright destroyed by serious point defense.

I'm glad you're enjoying your sweet nerfed under effective swarms. We still have forge guns to show others what some actual AV is like. 150m might be nice for vehicles but it's a joke for all but the most compact of sockets. Otherwise we are harassed by skilled tanking users that run away only to kill your swarmer anyways outside your range. ADS and DS as well. So far the swarms have lost their viability on the field.
(Who ever is mentioning mlt tanks or some bs please go to tanking academy or something you don't know how different vehicles are with and without skills GÇö it's night and day.) |
