My friends and i decided that we didnt want to get stomped anymore. So we came up with an idea that worked for all of us.
We got into 2 teams of 3 or 4 and instead of going for the objective we pick out a location where we would only face each other and not bother anyone else.
This worked out great and conditions were to only use starter or basic gear so no one will lose massive amounts of isk. Also both teams would have a healer so no one would lose suits even though they are cheap.
We had dropship battles, nova knive battles, melee only battles, and more. Lots of fun and lots of laughs. Any poor soul tring to ruin it was either killed or the fun was moved else where.

Did that in a former corp one time. We watched but tried to be on opposing teams. We'd have knife fights in the hills. It was fun!! \o/ |

I have to be honest with you.
The urge to start hunting down you and your friends if I see you in a match is pretty strong right now.
Don't get me wrong. I'm all about bettering NPE and I have even made suggestions to it that were met with strong criticism from Protostompers, but I do not approve of what you are doing.
Why don't you and your friends just team up against people while playing the objective? I get jumped by squads all the time; I can assure you it is a very effective approach. |

The one sided matches are more likely because of guys like you hiding and playing with themselves.

Why not? Domination is typically stomped because the players are concentrated in a small area of the map, so to win you need to take the one objective, which is pretty difficult when a proto squad has the place locked down. I a game mode like, say, Skirmish, the playing field is spread out, so if a proto squad is locking down one objective, just go to another one.
Unfortunately, most people play on Dom (or so I assume), so it takes longer to get a full game in the other modes. I personally prefer Skirmish.

Kinda weird, but this thread raises an interesting dilemma:
It's pretty clear that proto-pubstars have a massively negative impact how much new players can enjoy this game. It would be nice for the pubstars to not do their thing, but they have no obligation and more importantly no desire to as it's not a negative impact to them. It's generally considered 'not in the spirit of Dust' to ask them to change what they do for enjoyment just because it impacts other players.
Yet this group of new players have found a way to play the game that maximizes their enjoyment, and we're telling them not to do it because it impacts other players? It all sounds a bit hypocritical to me.

Ah OK I just assumed you were new. What to do? Do whatever is fun for you. We're reminded all the time that Dust is a sandbox and players are free to play it how they like. If someone doesn't like how you're playing they either need to learn how to counter it or HTFU. If they find it difficult to counter? Stiff. There's plenty of things in Dust that are difficult to counter. Not fair to your teammates? Ever been an average player on the side of a team that's doing the stomping... yeah good luck earning any decent ISK or SP for that round.
And the people that are crying about you boosting? Come the eff on. We've seen what boosting looks like from all the threads this week. A couple of friends heading to the edge of the map so they can have their own little skirmishes isn't boosting. It's emergent gameplay. If this was any other FPS I'd say what you're doing is wrong. But it's not, because this is New Eden.

Shaun said it perfectly, for your personal enjoyment, doing this is great. But from your teammates pov, you just abandonned them. You and your friends were as useless as those random blueberry staring at the MCC.
The game is terribly boring because of players who hide in the sides of the map/redline not fighting because they think they'lll get stomped. But this is just making things worse. If both team would fight and retry, stomp wouldn't be a thing.

This game is also terribly boring for the average player who keeps getting thrown into matches with & against other players that are leagues above them. That extra little push from the average players rarely has an effect on the outcome of a fight, it's all being decided by who at the top end decided to bring their a-game for that battle, so why not make the best of what you've been given and find some fun wherever you can?

When L.O.T.I.S. was still around, we used to meet up when we were on opposite sides of a match and intentionally try not to kill each other while jointly holding a position. For instance, in Line Harvest we'd get on the table top and both sides would drop uplinks up there and we'd voice in the L.O.T.I.S. public channel. We'd warn the squad on the other team when our blues were trying to get up or were getting close and shoot at our own blues to confuse them while they tried to concentrate on the squad on the other team. Much laughs, many joys.
The way I play these days (I only play with my girlfriend now, running as a duo) is that we find a point near the fighting and hold it as best we can. When we get pushed back or killed, we set up in a new position and repeat. It becomes more a game of 'defend our territory' rather than chasing kills or repeatedly spawning on points to protect them and getting officer stomped. If we see a clear opportunity to hack a point or take out a vehicle (we often run commandos with PLC's, me Minmando and her Galmando) we do so but we try our best not to chase people who run out of range of the limits of our 'territory' because doing so usually leads to running into a group of reds and getting slaughtered. It's actually a very effective means of helping the team since we can help push back or hold off the enemy team as our team regroups after losing an objective while also providing covering fire while our team pushes back in. It also takes a lot of the stress out of Dust as we aren't worrying about kills, wins or points. We are just fire support and when we are on a team that is actually trying, we make a pretty decent impact with just the two of us. I would recommend people to try this out as it's a great way to reduce the stress of Dust while also helping the team.

FA did this one with nothing but Black Eagle Scouts on Bridge.
THE BRIDGE IS CLOSED
We didn't even take the point, we just shot anyone trying to go for it on both sides.
10/10, we got the fight we wanted after both sides realized that they needed the middle point to win the match

I knew you are booster. I knew that from your past articles XD
BTW you can manage scrim without mode with points. Like ambush for example ;)

Ok, so this thread mad me look at things a little differently.
First, what you were doing is boosting, and should not be done. no questions asked, it was wrong.
Now, that is not to say you cant do it. hell I have done it before, but normally it is just me and a friend who que on opposite teams, to see who is better at one particular suit, with one particular weapon.
Normally we do a best out of three or the like, and then get on with the match like a normal red/blueberry.
I find nothing wrong with that morally, due to it being a competition, and not 'lets boost one guy to the top of the leader board so he can get X from a mission, or event.'
As to whether it is right as the game rules go, probably not, and honestly I don't care. That being said, if we get interupped, we don't keep doing it, we get on with the battle, until we are both free to continue. (normally we do this during when one of us is getting stomped.).
I just want to say, is if you have the time to set up this battle between friends, you have time to put an uplink in a position to bring your team closre to the objective/s.
Do I see any thing morally wrong with what you are doing? No.
Does that mean as far as the game is concerned you should be doing it? No.
Does me having done similar things in the past give me a place to say anything on the issue? Not really.
But whatever, just my 0.02 isk.
MUSIC!

The game is terribly boring because of players who hide in the sides of the map/redline not fighting because they think they'lll get stomped. But this is just making things worse. If both team would fight and retry, stomp wouldn't be a thing. That untrue on a lot of levels. Dont think we dont try when we are synced together. We use our proto on the enemy team but we are later forced to stop because we end up wasting them due to the fact that the rest of the team is not helping for whatever reason.
I dont understand why we have to try hard and lose hard for the rest of the team over and over. The fun dies and people get frustrated so we say forget it because it is no longer worth it. The reward is not great enough when losing isk that isnt so easy to get back. We have not left a battle that out numbered us but that dont mean we like that battle. Its a waste of time and isk.
