Kinda weird, but this thread raises an interesting dilemma:
It's pretty clear that proto-pubstars have a massively negative impact how much new players can enjoy this game. It would be nice for the pubstars to not do their thing, but they have no obligation and more importantly no desire to as it's not a negative impact to them. It's generally considered 'not in the spirit of Dust' to ask them to change what they do for enjoyment just because it impacts other players.
Yet this group of new players have found a way to play the game that maximizes their enjoyment, and we're telling them not to do it because it impacts other players? It all sounds a bit hypocritical to me.
Something is killing new player retention.

Ah OK I just assumed you were new. What to do? Do whatever is fun for you. We're reminded all the time that Dust is a sandbox and players are free to play it how they like. If someone doesn't like how you're playing they either need to learn how to counter it or HTFU. If they find it difficult to counter? Stiff. There's plenty of things in Dust that are difficult to counter. Not fair to your teammates? Ever been an average player on the side of a team that's doing the stomping... yeah good luck earning any decent ISK or SP for that round.
And the people that are crying about you boosting? Come the eff on. We've seen what boosting looks like from all the threads this week. A couple of friends heading to the edge of the map so they can have their own little skirmishes isn't boosting. It's emergent gameplay. If this was any other FPS I'd say what you're doing is wrong. But it's not, because this is New Eden.

This game is also terribly boring for the average player who keeps getting thrown into matches with & against other players that are leagues above them. That extra little push from the average players rarely has an effect on the outcome of a fight, it's all being decided by who at the top end decided to bring their a-game for that battle, so why not make the best of what you've been given and find some fun wherever you can?
