As a little experiment I took a few weeks off of Dust 514 and did nothing but play Destiny (I bought a PS4, stow your "Judge 2.0" comments).
Now, I'd played Destiny on the PS3 for a little while when it first came out but wasn't really into it. It came with the PS4 though so I decided to give it another go, noticed they fixed a lot of problems. It's actually a half decent game. One thing that absolutely -sealed it-, however, was the aiming. I don't know what it is, but Destiny's aiming mechanics are pretty awesome for a console game.
Coming back to Dust, I feel like I've unlearned all the muscle memory it took to be somewhat decent at this game. Aiming is like trying to pull your gun through syrup but somehow feels slippery like it's on ice. Yet, somehow, at the same time, it feels very jerky (particularly in ADS). It's hard to describe. The "aim assist" that everyone complained about is so subtle you don't even notice it when compared to Destiny. A lot of the time I feel like I should be landing rounds but I just can't because the game just doesn't want to co-operate with what I'm doing on the controller.
I think that's why the strafe-game was so powerful in Dust 514, I feel. It wasn't that strafing was too fast or too easy, it was quite simply that it's near impossible to aim with any sort of precision unless you've been playing Dust 514 for -so long- that it's just instinctual; familiarity with the shortcomings.
I dunno. Just my 2 ISK. But because of this I'm finding it extremely difficult to play Dust 514 again with any degree of success and this 21 wins thing for the SKIN is starting to feel more like a chore after the third loss in a row xD

the myofibril jumpy ****** **** is really, REALLY unbalanced
Nah.. It's a'ight, imo. I have a lot easier time with the jumping than I do trying to kill the strafe demons.

Can you tell me if there's any differences between consoles? I bought Dark Souls II for the PS3 about two weeks ago, and when someone told me about some stuff I could get, I searched for hours and could never find what they were talking about. I later learned that the PS4 version has things that the PS3 version doesn't, and it turned me off of the game horribly. I really don't want the same thing to happen with Destiny, because it looks pretty cool, otherwise.
Fundamentally no gameplay difference but the PS3 version is blurry as sin.

Jonny D Buelle wrote:For me, its the controller and not just the aiming mehanics in Dust that screw me over when I switch consoles/games. The PS3 controller has dead zones in their analog sticks, this is where that jerky feeling comes from, as you need to move the stick so much before the console detects it actually moving, then it just jerks.
This can be seen in other PS3 games as well with aiming mechanics. The Xbone and the PS4 don't have these dead zones so it feels less jerky, which is why it feels smoother.
To compensate for these dead zones, I acutally use an FPS Freek for my PS3 controller to extend it. Doesn't completely eliminates the dead zone, but it does help. Also helps my big hands grip better onto that small controller.
Interesting. I know some players use their PS4 controllers on the PS3. I might give that a shot, see if it helps any.

Unfortunately, my blog posts have to go through a process to make sure I don't actually mention anything covered by NDA. That process is very very low on the priority list as far as things actually being worked on (like, yanno, the game). So, if you're talking about lack of updates, that's why.
Or if you're just talking about the posts in that blog in general, well, feel free to do a better job

ANON Cerberus wrote:After taking a small break from dust and playing shooters on my PC again it made me realise - "How the hell have I put up with terrible KB/M aiming in this game for so long".
The gameplay and possibilities of gameplay mixed with deep character progression have always been a big draw but I do think the issues, errors, problems and bugs are starting to become too much for most people.
I mean most other games developers out there would have somewhat patched their way out of the performance lacking bug hole we appear to be in. Not CCP. Its hard to keep excited about a broken game when every time CCP announce something new and exciting they withdraw it or you dont hear a dickie-bird about it again.
Here's the thing a lot of people don't realize.
Anything we do has to go through Sony QA. That takes about two weeks or so. Lot of the time, CCP's QA will discover bugs after the patch/hotfix/whatever has already shipped and... Well, there's nothing you can really do about it until the next fix. That being said you also have to remember that CCP has a limited development budget at the moment which consists of Rattati and a few other devs. Some of which have little to no expertise in the actual problem areas (community manager will likely not be able to do anything about in-game bugs, for instance).
So, when I say CCP is doing everything they can? I really mean that. At the moment we're talking with them about extending the event on account of the black screen and lag proliferation as of recent. However, CCP -is- looking at those issues though and trying to find a fix. I know it's asking the impossible at the moment but just try to be patient until that fix happens

Trying to play Destiny and Dust at the same time is painful because the aim assist is SO strong in Destiny. Hell there are perks in destiny to make weapons have increased aim assist. Going back to Dust its like "Well **** my gun doesn't automatically snap to peoples faces anymore..." Wait boyko stop the horses. Approx 1/3 of destiny perks is not working properly anymore (since HoW) XD Fair enough XD Even so, Destiny aim assist is intense Yup AimAss is over the top in destiny, but movement and aiming itself (in core mechanics) are awesome. Dust is little clunky here. Basicaly Dust reminds me walking and aiming in lines. Destiny is more "flowish" like.
