Look, I'm not a game designer, plus I'm an *******, so that makes my opinion low on the totem pole, but I've been gone for a few months now, and it seems a lot like minor balances have been given priority over things that people were complaining about long before I left.
First thing that strikes me as soon as I return is that the lag is surprisingly bad. People always complained about it on the forums a few months back, but it was never something I personally experienced. Now it's just terrible. My screen freezes and when it unfreezes it turns out I've been running against a wall for the past 5 seconds.
Active scanners still plague me while I'm running on the literal edge of the map, and the scans are just as constant. Of ALL the things that needed balancing I would have said active scanners.
Pubstomping is still a huge problem.
There is still no penalty for leaving a match.
Long range weapons like the rail rifle have a ludicrously high range advantage over short range weaponry at a minimal dps reduction.
I get that you want to encourage people working together, but right now it seems like if you want to go lone wolf the game just says **** you.
Grenade spam hurts and I'm legitimately surprised that you didn't see it coming with such a huge buff.
Last, and most importantly, the MLT nanohive is still untouched. I mean, cmon, it is without exaggeration the worst item in the game. THE WORST ITEM IN THE GAME. Seriously. Not kidding. Like, terrible. Every buff to nanohives ever given has ignored the MLT nanohive, and it certainly wasn't a great item to begin with either. It needs some kind of buff. Anything, really.
But, yeah. I like to complain a lot, so I'm going to answer some anticipated questions right here:
>No, you can't have my ISK.
>I'm not leaving, I'll definitely be back in a few more months to complain some more.
>Seriously, buff the MLT nanohive.
>I know that I complained a lot without actually proposing any solutions, but that's just because I know my opinion is worthless.
> Did you think I was joking about buffing the MLT nanohive? Because I wasn't. Literally the worst item in the game. I know most people tune out the word, "literally," because it gets used in exaggerations so often, but I am using it in its purest form. I am literally saying that the MLT nanohive is literally the worst item in the game. Literally.
>If you take just one thing away after reading this post, it is that the MLT nanohive is in need of a buff.

It costs what 600 isk so no. Doesn't need a buff. Run adv nano. 28db isn't a big deal on scanners. They are sacrificing the grid and cpu to use it so their nade is usually getting the short end of the stick. Profile damp v is your friend and mandos can't see crap without a scanner. Just saying. So keep playing and you'll see the dynamic still works as intended... Rewarding teamwork.

Never stopped me. You throw enough ideas around eventually you come up with something good. That goes double when you involve a collective set of minds. So give it a go.
Something is killing new player retention.

No matter what anyone says, the single biggest problem with the game right now is performance. Lag, framerate, terrain bugs, hit detection, etc. The only way to start building the game and MAYBE increasi g the player count is by making the game, for all intents and purposes, playable. Nobody wants to stick around and learn the rules in a game that just doesnt play properly. After performance is NPE, explaining the game better, in turn allowing new players a better understanding of how the world works, subtracting from the derp and producing competent players. Fix the basics and maybe you can get your mlt nanohive buff.

Never stopped me. You throw enough ideas around eventually you come up with something good. That goes double when you involve a collective set of minds. So give it a go. Ditto for me. What i wanted and hoped for out of this game is almost the diametric opposite of what CCP has given us, including Rattati(though he has been the best of them by far). But when it's all over but the crying at least i'll be able to look back and know that i made my point heard without trolling the bejeezus out of the devs.
It's a public forum - in the end the best we can do is speak our piece rationally and try to win converts to our vision - or engage in the modern form of rhetoric(i.e. trolling) - or both. Choose your weapon, sir.

I myself worry that it is a matter of CCP not being able to do anything about it rather than not being willing. Willingness can be swayed, but ability can't be changed, resulting in the end of a unique, albeit misguided and confusing, but memorable experience.

Honestly I think it's more that they simply can't do anything about it atm. I accept that argument for legal or financial reasons, but from a technical standpoint there are always solutions. As a case in point, look at the backassward way individual suits were implemented or the way that maps were stitched together. If there are two such hamhanded examples of hack work i guarantee you there are a thousand.
If we look at the NPE in this game, most of us agree that it's completely needless to make new players suffer like they do. It's a choice that is being actively made by CCP every day, imo.
Not arguing with you Arkena, but i honestly think there's a lot that could have been done and could still be done to increase our playerbase without compromising New Eden values or Dust - furthermore, these are game design issues that need to be ironed out for any successful future implementation of 'New Eden on the Ground'. So much of what Rattati can accomplish is constrained by the size of our playerbase. Whatever CCP's plans are for the future, an increased playerbase would have to be a good thing.
Or would it?

You wouldn't believe how many idiots I've counter-sniped because they were sitting inside of hives. There! The Militia NanoHive has a use. Assault Swarm Launcher now holds the title of the most useless thing in DUST!

They are sacrificing the grid and cpu to use it so their nade is usually getting the short end of the stick. Profile damp v is your friend and mandos can't see crap without a scanner. Just saying. So keep playing and you'll see the dynamic still works as intended... Rewarding teamwork. Literally the worst item in the game. No excuses.
1. It's militia gear -- It's supposed to suck really hard
2. If you think the MLT hive is the worst, you've never known the joy of trying to respawn on a map full of MLT uplinks |
