I had one of those matches this morning where I was consistently and inexplicably lucky. I was not playing badly, but I have played better at times and still gone 0/10 when Chance was feeling fickle.
It was a Domination match in Line Harvest, which many of your will know as the map with the towers on either side of the valley and the Tabletop in the centre of the map. In Domination the terminal is located in a shipping container next to the Tabletop.
My luck ran for the whole game, but I will give one example to illustrate what I am talking about:
I was under the Tabletop engaging with an Assault who was coming across the road at me. He was too far from cover to run, so he made a valent last stand and had me down to 5 ticks of armour left by the time I killed him.
While I was engaging him several enemy had made a push from the North and gotten into the box with the terminal. With 5 ticks of armour left I knew it was suicide to take them on, but I figured that if I could do enough damage to the hacker he might interrupt the hack to save himself, and give my team a few more seconds to respond.
So I charge into position in front of the open end of the box and started firing at the hacker. There was a medium frame of some sort hacking, an HMG Sentinel crouching, and assault with a rifle. I burned down the hacker with my Burst HMG while the other two opened fire on two Blues who had just come round the corner behind me. The Blues returned fire with decent accuracy. Once the Hacker was down I allowed my Burst HMG to cool for about half a second as I targeted the squatting HMG Sentinel. My first burst was a head shot which took him out due to the damage he had already taken and as I swung my HMG toward the third Red a queued burst went off and took out the last guy before I even had a chance to pull the trigger again.
So basically I made a suicide charge against a heavily armed position, with almost no health left, and not knowing that there was any backup nearby. Yet somehow, not only did I survive the encounter, but I stopped the hack and got 3 kills. There was a certain amount of skill involved, but it was mostly luck, particularly the final kill which I got without pulling the trigger and only "aiming" in the vaguest definition of the word.
The rest of my game went much like that. The enemy team seemed to be in the habit of running into my line of fire, and I had many unexpected kill opportunities where all I had to do was pull the trigger. I even had a few more GÇ£accidentalGÇ¥ kills where the person I killed was not the person I was aiming at.
IsnGÇÖt it funny how in some matches you can do everything right and play your best, but still die repeatedly to unavoidable scenarios, like getting hit by a turret in the distance or being taken out by a Plasma Cannon that you did not know was there. Then in other matches everything goes your way and you look like a god on the leader boards, but know in your hart that you just got luck!
