Or rather to send towards them, the items are lost in the void though. Most people don't know about this and accidents do happen. I know your support reimburses these accidents. But it must be an unnecessary tedius task for them. PLEASE do a simple fix: remove "send item" and "send isk" from the dust-to-eve char context menu items! Or fix it otherwise.
