What are the odds of me being able to take a SKIN I don't want (Brutor) and turning it into a SKIN I do want (Thukker).
Take SKIN "A", add salvaged materials, and get SKIN "B".
Are we any closer to this than before CCP? Would be a fantastic feature to implement. I also can't wait to be able to melt down all my officer suits and turn them into Logibros.

Rattati and his team are already working on adding simple crafting to the game. But I don't think they will make SKINs be craftable.

The foundation for a future crafting system is in place, but I don't believe that SKINs will have anything to do with it. It use to be part of the manufacturing process for Eve Online, but that got changed at the same time that SKIN modules were introduced to Dust 514.

One used to be able to craft SKINs in EVE?

Not exactly.
Before SKINs much like with DUST each different textured ship was a "separate" ship in regards to the database. (Albeit one with identical stats in everything except assigned texture model) This was due to the model being an intrinsic part of the ship entity.
Since EVE was firmly against any P2W ideas or allegations, when introducing new colorations of ships in the EVE Store for AURUM they were introduced as blueprints. The blueprints took the "original" ship as input, then in a short industry job outputted the "new" ship that was connected to the different texture. In this way there was a "manufacturing process" involved with different skined ships but it wasn't really anything like the 'real' crafting process.

I don't see how a cosmetic blueprint could be considered P2W, but I'm sure it was just to avoid any potential backlash. I'm wondering if this exact system could be implemented to Dust? A quick cheap way to implement manufacturing?
