what platform would you personally prefer? I'm constantly shifting between PC and Ps as of late though I've been leaning more towards Ps4 since PC already has a plethora of games that would take away from the shiny new Dust. |

Actually, PC has far fewer titles than consoles for DUST to compete against. PC also means you never need to port again. |

Yep, like Rouge said, it is better to do PC for the sake of a port. Console supporters should be wanting that since it gives them a choice in console and most likely will be a better game due to direct playtesting by the community on ol' Sisi.

Johnny is right Bethesda is doing the same with fallout 4 since the next Gen consoles are closer to PC operating systems. They even said that in time they'll be able to give console players the ability to mod their games just like on PC. So id rather dust went to PC first and then to ps4 |

Are you two high? PC doesn't have games?
PC has literally every game EVER, (bar a few dozen Sony/XBox/Nintendo exclusives.)
The pool of games for PC consists of nearly every game released, (emulators yo) in the last roughly 30 years versus the PS4 which has had a grand total of...
Drumroll please!
Less than two... Plus a couple games you can stream.
It's the reason why Dust needs to go to PS4. Being one of only a few games available automatically means it gets a larger share of the target audience. Going to PC would be like adding a drop of water in the Atlantic.

Where is all this xbox talk coming from? I was under the impression that microsoft made it very clear that they were not open to the connections that Dust 514 has to make.
The only voice for a port is the voice of reason from money drying up.
More skins and 1% damage to keep Dust on PS3.

It's a tough one. On one hand f2p FPSs are more common on PC, so there's more competition. But there's also a pre-existing player base from Eve that are already used to how things work in New Eden, so you'd get pretty high player retention from there. Also, PC gamers are more used to the less-than-casual nature of games like of Dust which would result in even more player retention.
On the other hand, gamers are more likely to stumble upon Dust as a game in the PS Store so you're going to have a larger stream of new players. I'd also speculate that gamers are more confident going through with microtransactions via the PS Store than they are through CCPs webstie. However, in my experience console gamers are kinda fickle and will jump (permanently) to whatever the new thing is - look at what Destiny did to the playerbase.
For Dust to thrive it needs a loyal, hardcore playerbase. I think that playerbase is more likely to be found on PC than on PS4.
Stat modifiers are killing new player retention.

They didn't want it coming from CCP servers. I'd think if designed on PC they could cripple ccp server connection and make a stand alone game that is served from microsoft's servers. Since the PC version would be the main concern for EVE connectivity I don't see why they couldn't still market it on xbox as its own thing.

Kid, steam games free of the week or bejeweled is not a competitor for DUST.... Consoles have real competition coming out every month. I don't see Fall out 4 or Battle Fronts coming to PC, do you? So talking about competition from emulators is idiotic. Bottom line is THERE ARE FAR MORE TITLES THAT COMPETE WITH DUST ON CONSOLES. You may want this game for console, but it was a mistake to take it here to begin with. The fact that this discussion is even taking place highlights that. PC is a forever platform, consoles are not. Your bias comes through pretty hard in that post. Dust is far more unique in a PC environment than on a console. There are 4-6 major FPS titles a year for console...and usually 0 for PC.

Well safest choice is PC I believe since as you can see EVE is very much successful on that platform. Just lower the pc requirements so that the people who can't afford gaming PC can still play. Also I think that Dust can better connect with EVE if they are on the same platform. Port dust to PS4 once it's stable and not a mess like it is now

CCPs sole purpose seems to be making as much use as possible out of the Eve IP. A stand alone game on xbox would not only be contrary to that vision but would also seriously divide resources for no good reason.
Sony has shown a great willingness to play ball with CCP and even given them a flagship spot on project morpheus.
PC is CCPs native home and the second easiest developer environment available. By most talks among game developers the PS4 has taken the top spot in a grand fashion but I have no way of knowing for sure.
Microsoft shut down any possibility of talks right from the start. They want only people that will do exactly what they say and nothing more.
I think it is a very safe assumption to say that nothing CCP will be coming to the Xbox.

Your cell phone probably has more processing power than your PS3, so PC requirements should not be an issue unless they really overhaul the graphics. I have to agree, I see no issue with porting BACK to PS4 from a PC environment, but having to do this port or die dance every 6-8 years because you are console dependent does not seem to be the right answer. As much as I hate to say it as well, but a port to PC does cut out the pleebs. Which could make room for a subscription based games like EVE where there is incentive to make a balanced game with real match making. Not the Free-to-Play disaster we have now.

This is because the cell processor of the PS3 makes it nearly impossible to port without recreating most of the game.
If this game were made for the PS4 then it would be easily ported to any subsequent system because it is simply a PC with permanent hardware.

THIS. However, I'm highly worry that it won't work out that way so I'm just gonna vote for PS4. :V Most of the playerbase that has left here went to there anyway. Re-releasing Dust on PC would probably not get as much attention, at least not without a really costly push. Old Dust members would at least try it to see if it's more enjoyable.

By most info from game developers the PS4 seems to be the easiest platform to develop on currently.
Sony heard the cries of developers who considered the PS3 to be the worst platform ever to make content for and turned that around massively on PS4.

So lets put this in terms that really matter to a company: Money
EVE online subscriptions: 450000 +/- Dust Free to Play Concurrent logins: 2200 +/-
One of these makes money the other does not. A single platform free to play game is not going to make the almost $7mill a month EVE does from subscriptions alone. I know many of you have a personal interest in wanting it to port to PS4, but the reality is it probably won't port anywhere and least of all to another single platform console. The PS4 already hit the height of its console sales in May and its been on a downhill slide since. It undersells the Xbox one and undersells PCs by a landslide. So, what I am trying to say is no amount of Pie in the sky moaning and begging is going to make bringing this game to PS4 a better idea than porting it to PC. PC is the easiest development platform for longevity. You develop it once and done. Even if PS4 were easier to develop for having the platform die again in 5 years means another costly port. I like playing Dust on console as well, but the reality is it can't stay on a console as its native environment.
A port to PC with subscription based play opens the market to older players with greater amounts of spendable income. That's a reality.
That's the reality that many of the players don't want to hear. That the game needs to move to a subscription based PC game if it is going to have the longevity of EVE. It will not have that with 16 year old kids playing for free on a console. That's is simply the way it is. The motivator is profit and the free to play aspect of DUST is already breaking down with the low number of new players to act as content for the spenders. Moving to a new console will not fix that issue in the long run, and it will move through the same cycle you have seen on PS3. This was a great Beta test, but its time for Dust to grow up and become a real game. That means moving to a permanent and profitable new home, and PS4 can never be permanent even if it could be profitable. |
