So, I pushed points into the magsec about two weeks before the hotfix dropped because my Amarrscout (don't chuckle, it's a solid fit) needed an automatic weapon that could make kills of opportunity from just outside CQC range. Overall, I found it lacking in terms of damage and accuracy, especially in ADS, where it would kick far too hard after the 20-25 round mark. I was pleased to hear that it was going to get a significant buff come patch day, and I've been playing these past four hours or so with it on my Amscout, mainly on Acquisition. In short:
1) Kick in ADS still feels harsh for a weapon designed to engage at range with accuracy.
2) Oddly, it's hipfire is exceptional. Tight spread, minimal kick. I never struggled to stay on target when at full pelt.
3) Damage buff is noticeable, and welcome. It isn't melting assault suits in seconds, but it does feel dangerous and useful.
4) Charge reduction is the true hero of the story; you've hit the sweet spot between making it a noticeable feature that must be accounted for during play without it crippling the weapon entirely.
Most of my engagements ran along two distinct lines; either I got the jump on my opponent and downed them with that massive magazine size, or we saw each other coming roughly at the same time and the charge time got me melted.

I had prof 4 SP skill, many months before the hotfix came.
Now I use the magsec with upgraded damage from the hotfix and 3 krins mods (10-12% extra damage)
The patch upgraded the magsec SMG damage by roughly 10%, and reduced the charge time thus increasing DPS again once more, and making burst firing much easier when recoil becomes too much.
compared to a unskilled and unmodded magsec before the hotifx, to what I use after the hotfix, the magsec is massively better.
it was deadly using surprise attacks before the hotfix, now its even deadlier.
I killed a gal aslt with it while aiming down sights, he charged at me while I was in cover, silly gal aslt. I melted him. |
