There is no need for such huge maps. Reducing map sizes could hopefully give this game the performance boost it needs.

I remember reading and/or hearing that the devs were considering remaking/cutting down maps into smaller, seperate and more unique ones that require less loading. I think this might have been considered to coincide with the streamlining for Dropsuits via Power Cores.

The request is too simple and therefore counterproductive.
Quote:A Request To CCP - Please Reduce Map Sizes
The OP must hope for more player interaction and less searching of opponents and more intense game experience. I asking for that, he is actually accidentally wishing upon himself more redline sniping and tanking and all the redline related problems.
Therefore, I edit the OP's request as follows:
"Please make the maps narrower but longer" aka more relative depth in map.
That way you find opponents in that 'corridor' and maybe some fronlines form, but importantly, without players having full effect on the battle from the safety of their redline (exception when a team is redlined, of course)

Yes, yes, and yes.
Map sizes are ridiculous for our match sizes.
Ambush and domination would be incredible when limited to a large city socket. Skirmish and acquisition would probably need to stay as they are.
This would also free up room for those large sockets to be more complex while still improving performance.
The only voice for a port is the voice of reason from money drying up.
More skins and 1% damage to keep Dust on PS3.

I like the size of the parts of the maps we actually play on, all those extra kilometers in no man's land could do with some trimming.
Shit man, all I ever get is fucking warnings.

There's a ton of extra map rendered beyond current redlines.

From a dropship POV, the maps are already tiny, making transportation irrelevant. What we need are bigger teams...

Please keep in mind that the smaller the maps are, the more emphasized the problems of spawning (spawnkilling/spawnambushing becomes).
Anyone remember the period of Manus Peak ambush at the crater, where cleverest stomping teams could herd the reds to spawn on the area of their choosing (mostly unprotected east road)?
Also, no one likes to be spawnkilled. Even less people like heavies getting a free kill on you because he just happened to spawn behind you.

This pretty much sums it up.
I'll ask if this is an option guys, however, no guarantees that it's going to be a thing any time soon.
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

That way you find opponents in that 'corridor' and maybe some fronlines form I find myself agreeing with this a lot.
Personally I enjoy playing Domination for the simple reason that, even before spawning, I know that there's going to be at least 15 other players between one of the MCCs and the objective. That way I know I can be in a nice fight within seconds of deploying, which is what I want when launching Dust
With skirmish there are up to 5 objectives with 4! = 10 possible paths between them. Given that only half of the team actually contributes to the fight that means a push for an objective will under many circumstances be a one-person initiative. Skirmishes sometimes make me feel lonely.
Maps that stretch long but are narrow funnel the players into a single line so we can bring all the players we have to bear. Ideally the objectives along that line must be captured in order so you can't jump from one end to the other. That focuses the players even more, but takes some freedom away from the players.
Anyone remember the skirmish 1.0 map? That one with a bit fewer pathways. |

Lore..
Installations on Planets clear the atmosphere of any harmful gases in a 500?m radius..
Meaning the "redline" in maps could be adjusted to nothing and relaced with something similar to the storm mood, excpet darker.. then there is no need for loading anything outside the redline.. as we would not be able to to see it.
(Cinematic views in a game barely playable a portion of the time are not needed)
Kero's view on Ambush hits the mark, but I'd argue it.. as even on a big map, the better team can herd the other into a kill-box.. even if smart deploy pops them 500m away, it's only a matter of finding them and making a new one. And even as a low SP noob.. I loved old Manus Peak.. it was constant action good/bad
I fully support any overhaul of our maps, it's a shame that with all the variation we have there are none where I can say "don't change this map!!" in reality.. they all suck, for one reason or a list of them.
Well that was a surprise.

Yes. Shrink the maps. Save resources.
BUUUT we need a game mode which uses the entire thing (like how maps are connected)
Like warfare in UT3 ish... It'd be a fun gamemode
