Yeah, that's pretty peculiar. I'll get ahold of Kirk (he's more of the LAV/small turret expert) and we'll check it out. Looks like there are weak points on the LAV that are screwy. Can do that in about two hours or so. Send an e-mail to '[email protected]' and remind me.

Kay, checked this out in game.
For light, non-AV weapons, and small turrets, the LAV's engine block is a hidden weak point - like the fuel cells on an HAV. If you aim where the engine is, roughly, with non-AV weapons you'll do more damage. Flaylock Pistol and Breach Mass Driver, for instance, do full damage as opposed to other parts of the vehicle where they only do half.

Mass Driver only does full damage to LAVs on the engine block. Dunno about Dropships.

That's kind of disappointing, I was hoping that my breach could become my all purpose go to av so I could finally ditch the swarms. Yeah in combat situations you will be hitting the side of the lav or dropship 95% of the time and only get the 40% efficiency. I hope this is not intended. A well fit lav or dropship will be near impossible to take out with a mass driver, unless they're just sitting there letting you shoot them.
Consider this for a moment: Assuming a max level Minmatar Commando with stacked damage mods, you're looking at about 594 damage per shot from a Breach Mass Driver. Even at half damage, which is what you'd get against an LAV, you're doing about 300 damage. You have six shots in the cylinder, for a total of 1,783 damage.
Apply the armor damage bonus (20%) and it comes out to 2,140 damage. Assuming a 'Quafe' Methana with no modules attached has 1,200 armor.... You should theoretically be able to kill it within 4 shots. Not counting if you hit the engine block which would do double that damage, meaning you'd only need 2 well placed rounds.
This is all paper math, results in game may differ.
