Played it last night on pc
Graphics are fantastic. This game looks better than the actual movies. The weapons look and feel great, my favorite being the E-11 Breach assault blaster rifle
Cycler rifle is kinda nice, cause it pleases my inner Minmatar, and I hope there are more slugthrowers if I pick up the full game "Oh, what's that? You think because you've got all those flashy blasters and **** a bullet can't hurt you? You even started calling them dumb names like "slugthrowers"? WELL **** YOU *BANG* HOW DOES THAT SLUG IN YOUR BRAIN FEEL? OOPS, ENERGY SHIELD DIDN'T BLOCK THAT, DID IT?"
But the lack of classes and fairly limited looking customization to replace it irks me, as with some of the gear being restricted to random "Pickups". I understand orbital strikes being locked behind a pickup, but the smart rocket launcher? Every time I fire it I waste it cause I can't practice with it.
Vehicle gameplay is awkward with horrid 3rd person view and flight controls, where the crosshair doesn't really line up with where the bolts are gonna hit
It's kinda like the transition from bf2 to bf3, the game got a little simpler and something got lost in translation.
It... got... CASUAAALLLLLLLLL
Oh, and you can spam infinite grenades every 7 seconds and people never get out of the way. Getting a score bonus for killing someone with a grenade
i don't even have words for that |

My one big complaint is that I don't get a sidearm, and I hope I get pleasantly surprised with the full game in that regard. That's pretty much what I'm hoping too. The "star cards" in the beta seem incredibly limiting in that you can only carry 2 support weapons/items and your one blaster, plus a powerup. If you want a blaster pistol, that means no blaster rifle.
Ideally I'd want to be able to pick from a variety of primary weapons including but not limited to blasters, a sidearm also not limited to blasters, plus two support items and the powerup. If it turns out I can get close to that I'm sold

That said, I've seen at least a few people using the Tie Fighters to great effect. That's actually my favorite vehicle by far, just that I'd prefer a first person view so I can actually aim instead of shooting by trial and error... this is what I was referring to, the laser cannons frequently hit the snow way under the crosshair, and you have to aim by seeing where the bolts are actually going to hit pesky rebels on a ridge
The AT-ST has a lot of things going for it, high vantage point, amazing manuverability, the laser cannons kill fairly quickly when you can actually aim them right and have splash damage to boot, do decent enough damage to turrets and such. Giving them secondary weapons like missiles in the full game (and a first person view) would make them amazing. At the same time, they're fairly vulnerable. They're very easy to spot and shoot at, and every blaster shot slowly wears it down. Proper AV weapons like the ion torpedo card in survival mode and smart rocket pickup decimate it.

In the lore there are bullets, but they hit so weak compared to blaster bolts that a Stormtrooper will tank any number of them head on. The only point where it will even have the slightest chance of piercing is the visor.
There's a reason that people in star Wars chose to use a weapon that has notable travel time, and it's because of damage
You're right, the slugthrowers are supposed to be useless against the futuristic armor plating the stormtroopers and vehicles have... the thing is they're slowly gaining back relevance exactly because the people in starwars think they're joke weapons, they've forgotten how to deal with them. Assassins and such use them to great effect, taking advantage of things like how difficult it is to tell what direction suppressed gunfire is coming from, compared to the disco light show of blaster fire.
Body armor is heavy, limits movement, and doesn't seem to do a whole lot if you get hit by the heavy-hitting blasters... but they wear it because it makes you immune to slugthrowers and other threats. But nobody uses that archaic nonsense anymore, right? And an energy shield will actually protect me from blasters... so what if I just leave this armor behind, carry a shield instead...
Rebel grunts already wear light or no body armor compared to stormtroopers, favoring camouflage and mobility (plus a lack of resources), and a direct hit form a blaster bolt will kill either of them just the same... I can see in a drawn out war Stormtroopers deciding to adapt and strip down their armor a bit, for better mobility or due to strained resources
And boom. Slugthrowers have a niche relevance again. |
