I love New Eden. I bought a PS3 solely to play Dust. The game stands on its own merits as a good, thinker's, high TTK sci-fi shooter, and that it's free-to-play and set in such an epic background is just awesomeness icing.

It's a damned shame that it's pinned to the aging PS3. It deserves the rebirth that any other epic shooter saga gets every handful of years when the platform tech ceases to do justice to the underlying IP.

I have a group of gamers that plays PC FPSs together, who universally lament the dearth of sci-fi shooter offerings on the current market. They've watched me play Dust. They like it. They're not going to dive in and buy a PS3 as I did just to play it, but if it showed up on the PC with updated textures and optimized controls, they'd play it in a heartbeat. If it ALSO had some of the Legion features we heard about before radio silence, they'd play the **** out of it and probably not play much else.

What a shame it would be to throw away all that potential and growth just to satisfy the handful of people that won't follow Dust where so many of us think it's meant to go.

EDIT: as an optimist, I'm leaning toward the explanation that CCP is silent on the matter mainly in order not to divert attention from Valkyrie. Fine. But throw us a bone. What PR harm could come of "We hear you, and we will address Dust and its future in more detail once the limelight has shifted off of the Valkyrie release"?

Go back and look at the presentation recordings and look at how much of the mechanics were getting butchered for no reason or dropped entirely, and you'll have a better understanding of why many of us didn't like it. Also, the "EVE: Legion" copyright was dropped. Not sure how much more dead you can get than that. Maybe they wanted to change the name? Makes sense, the name Legion has bad blood after FanFest 2014. Shanghai is a fairly large studio, and it was never fully dedicated to DUST. About half of the studio is dedicated to EVE China. The staff from DUST is also still there, doing whatever. Weaponry used by mortals can't give you lethal feedback like say the LR can. The weapon automatically regulates itself. Immortals use modified versions allowing us to push them to the limits. Didn't cup say it could run with not that powerful pcs? That demonstration probably isn't representative of the port if it exists. Too many months have went into it, it could be completely different now, different engine, different gameplay concepts. So much. As for the demo itself, it was an extremely rough vertical slice that's NOT something ready for the masses in terms of performance. The demo machines had top of the line hardware, with highly binned chips for overclocking, because nothing short of that could run the game at a decent frame rate.
