I always thought prototype suits weren't really prototype at all, just more expensive and thicker skinned. Since the slot change, this has become more apparent from my prospective.
I propose we free up the title of "prototype" for the future (wether near or far). We can do this without changing or removing a single suit with a little reorganizing.
We start with the non specialized frames. Brand all frames as Basic tier. Then instead of using Basic/Advanced/Prototype to grade the quality of the suit, use Grades C/B/A.
Example: We have The Caldari medium frames. What use to be the Basic Caldari frame is now Grade C, what was the Advanced frame is now Grade B, and the Prototype frame is now Grade A. All three are Categorized as Basic tier.
Moving on to the specialized suits; Scouts, Assaults, Logistics, ect. Brand all of them as Advanced tier, grading quality with C/B/A. Repeat the example above only with one of the specialized suits of your choice.
All existing suits and their prices stay the same and now we have room for suits that are truly deserving of the Prototype tier.
We could try the same thing with weapons I suppose.
A vanilla sniper rifle would be a Basic tier weapon with three grades C/B/ and A. Then the Tactical variant would be categorized as Advanced with three grades as well. The Charge Sniper Rifle would be an Advanced tier weapon but with only one grade, grade A.

The suits are actually designated like what you're talking about.
Assault A-1 is standard amarr
Assault A/1 is advanced
Assault Ak.0 is proto.
Mlt/std/adv/pro are mostly a HUD quick designator to say what grade of enemy you face.
The only exception are militia crap
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

Oh I know that. What I was pitching looks more like this.
Assault A-1 is Grade C
Assault A/1 is Grade B
Assault Ak.0 is Grade A
All three Anarr Assault suits are categorized as Advanced teir.
The purpose of this is to make room for possible tech 3 equivalent suits to take up the Prototype tier. Even if it'll be years before that will ever happen. |
