The problem is two-fold:
-People (idiots) think the two (snipers and the redline) are mutually exclusive. They are not. Snipers very seldom shoot from the redline, because it's obvious, and usually a poor place to get kills/observe. But there are many people who, whenever they're killed by a sniper, automatically assume that sniper was in the redline.
-People don't JUST hate redline shooters. They hate getting killed by any snipers at all, because it robs them of the chance to cheat-kill them with hitbox glitch strafing and OP scrambler-spam. |

Ambush takes place on a large maps. Snipers are not protected by a redline, so they rarley play ambush. Thats the mentality of the majority of dust snipers. If they can't sit in one place for the duration of the match where nobody can't reach them without dying, they wont snipe. They dont shoot and move. They pick the best camping spot they can find, and sit protected not by thier skill, or awareness, or being a good sniper, but the redline.
You can bring them much closer to the fight easily. My general sniping range is about 100- 150 m behind the lines under good cover, and good cover can be found everywhere. But where I would go say 10-2 mixed between sniping and defending my self, the typical sniper would rather go 5-0 in the redline.
See, this is the kind of pathetic ignorance I was referring to. Speaking like sniping and being in the redline are mutually exclusive without exception.
Snipers are protected by DISTANCE; like Heavies are protected by high armor/shielding, Scouts are protected by speed and small size, etc.
The reasons snipers usually don't play ambush is because spawning is so random, and the matches are too short. It has nothing to do with the redline.
They don't shoot and move because that's not how sniping works. In anything; game, real life, etc. Moving around a lot exposes you and wastes time.
If your "general sniping range" is 100-150m, you are not sniping. You are assaulting with a sniper rifle. |
