....it is renamed "Faction Warfare". Here's why:
I don't think anyone really uses it as a general guide to upgrade your clone. It does nicely display all the various dropsuits of all factions and a general idea of what weapons those factions prefer. It looks pretty cool too. By altering this menu and the function of Factional Warfare I believe an amazing new experience in Dust can be created.
Factional Warfare should be changed to allow only these suits in the Progression tab to be selected. They would replace all your created dropsuits in FW mode and act like frontline suits in a way. They are always free in FW. One thing that has always bothered me about FW in Dust is the idea of paying for my own uniform. I wouldn't join an army like that. Also, the yellow boxed gear in these dropsuits should be made unchangchable. The community should be involved in creating a newer selection of these FW suits. Many of the dropsuits already in the progression tab are great, but others need some work, and a better variety of logistics would be good.
I think this would add a great incenvtive to playing FW in a whole new way. Also, it would give new (and older) players a vision on how to streamline and truly progress their clone to fight for their faction. Imagine: battles of all Caldari vs. all Gallente with their racial gear and Minmatar vs. Amarr just ilke it !!!!!! YEAH!!!!! |

Except that a lot of the suits have racially mixed combinations. Not to mention most are just really bad. I play faction wars a great deal, and I may be loyal to the Caldari/Amarr causes, but I sure am not in the army of either. So, I run what works best for me. That's the point of the modular system. Making me run all Cal in CFW means I either can't play or need to spend valuable SP on modules I don't want. I like the flavor idea, but ultimately we are all individual mercs with individual skill sets. Choosing to fight in a factional vs Pub does not change that. It's a contract to fill, and we all fill it the best we know how. |

I like this idea but I don't see it being put in.
Also I woukd like to point out that in FW in EVE, you can fly pretty much any ship (though I would not recommend doing FW in a Barge) for any faction. I have even seen some Amarrian ships fighting for the Minmatar.
Also, bringing in my limited knowledge of lore here, Amarr and Caldari are allies just like the Minmatar and the Gallente. It would not be that much of a leap to say that allied soldiers fight side by side and woul prefer using their own races gear.

So Caldari assualts are suppose to have combat riffle or assult rifles? Funny that you say that it shows a general guideline. Also I guess all heavies are suppose to have a mag sec smg too where the hit detection is glitchy. The loadouts aren't racially fitted besides the basic level per each. Maybe a developer might want to look into that before saying a Caldari assult needs a boundless combat rifle, scrambler pistol, and a drop link?

Like I said, there are many suits that need work, or to be outright eliminated. That's where the community comes in. Maybe a Ghost Blade may want to look into suggesting some better fits? |

Fix that mess first.
Gallente fits got mixed up with Minmatar ones and there are only half the roles.
There aren't any scouts or commandos. I don't think logis are there, either.

Maybe having our options limited is exactly what we need! ... not too much though.
There will still be three tiers of dropsuits and gear and depending on your skills you will find the the suit that best suits you Or, in my case, the state You will still have access to the unfitted slots through the edit menu and based on your core skills this can make a big impact. |

I agree this would make FW far more interesting. I love the nay sayers who still feel like coming out in force without thinking about how many other half built things have been fun in this game. Like PC.
So I think this is a great idea. It makes fighting for the Caldari fighting with Caldari based suits.
Then you would see people skill into a race for access to the suit they wanted. Plus you would not be spending isk, which people really want to hoard for some reason. This would allow for a good experience for newer players because they get to use gear that while basic for the race, would be comparable with the rest of their team.
I love how some of the vets out here don't see that this would add a new level of complexity to FW and this game. You want to try PLC, you need to go get your gallente on and light it up. Great idea! Did you put it into the ideas and features?
Adding suits to the progression would be no problem because they already have aurum versions, they would just need to strip those down to isk versions.
The lore behind this could be that while we are mercs, the Amarr, Gal, and Cal all want us to wear their colors when on their battlefields. That is how private contractors work in war situations. You put on the uniform and you return it when you are done. Then, here are your republic credits.
I know I skipped the matari but they really don't care what you wear. Just put some bullets down field. Order is simply chaos biding its time!

I'm... actually not that opposed to this idea.
It's a weird shakeup which means it wouldn't happen and it has some problems, but honestly it'd be pretty awesome to see actual faction teams.

That's the thing about FW in Dust....it has always just felt weird. I don't think in FW we should be considered as mercs or militia but soldiers for the faction we are fighting for. That's where the loyalty payments come in. I guess we are essentialy paid in company script and the various empires are essentially the largest of corporations. It's confusing.....are we paramilaries or just military?
Beyond our clone's crisis of identity I truly believe a game mode to function in this manner would be amazing and invigorating to Dust. I also completely agree that the "progression" tab should not be kept as is, but greatly overhauled, in the manner we are describing. Yes, fix the fits, fix the scrolling, fix-up FW
As clones have mentioned above; this would work great for new players. They can have gear a step above to get a feel for it, decide where they'd like to focus, and loyalty script to access better gear for their mercenary career. They need battlefield experience and a little stockpile before entering the cold unforgiving depths of New Eden.
......also, I'm not a big fan of the nicknames. I'd prefer the good ole' "State Protectorate Assault" or something like that. |
