Nah. Dust does the F2P part pretty well. I've spent lots of money on Dust, but at no point did I feel like I needed to in order to play, contribute or compete. It does seem like we are losing players, but I don't think that AUR has anything to do with it.
Fixing performance issues and finding ways to make the game more fun to play would go a long way. In my book, at least. |

DUST has "failed" because they yanked most of the funding and staff from this game and put them on other projects.
That said, this game will never die because it has some of the most unreasonably loyal fanboys in the history of gaming. |

For me, there has never been much joy in giving CCP money for dust though.
Skins I don't see, SP I get anyway, and I can't justify the prices they are charging for keys or components.
The monetization scheme just seems really out of whack, and I would rather be a whale in eve or WoWs, where I feel I get more joy out of my dollar investment.
The prices for stuff in this game are not on par with the quality on offer, above and beyond the other reasons why I am reluctant to put money in, mainly that I am reasonably confident they are just running the clock out to try and recoup as much as possible.

Actually it does have an end date when Sony kills PSN for ps3.

I somehow doubt they would close themselves off to extra profits when they could just keep PSN running for the many millions of systems still in use.
It doesn't matter to me, if I want to play vintage games I just turn on my PS1. Still. I doubt PSN will just vanish for the ps3 |

My biggest issue since the very beginning in closed beta has been skill boosters. People will tell you it's not pay to win because you can only take a single build so far, but versatility is an extremely powerful advantage. Sure, you can absolutely get it through hard work. But it will take months if not YEARS, during which you are at a distinct disadvantage against those who consistently purchase SP boosters.
It's always bothered me that it's one of the only things worth buying in this game, and having loved EVEs SP system, it really put me off from the very beginning. |

Dust failed because of the asinine decision making the original team had and Dust has lost players because the community is full of groups that are mostly just a bag of dicks that'll stomp the ever living sh!t out of those that can't compete using any method they can (ranging from proto/officer stomping std and adv randoms to abusing glitches) and then blame CCP for their actions.
Nice to see the community is still mostly just a bag of dicks.

What's killing it for me finally is the ease with which some items are being spammed so as to make the game boeing and predictable. Tryhard power players are rewarded too easily for their generic win, win, win playstyle.
The last ounce of variety and multiple optionsand tactics to win or overcome died a few months back.

You can't play if you can't connect to a server.....and the lose of the PSN for the PS3 means just that. It's not a "stop updating" event, its a no more service event. Sony already said it happens in December, so your PS3 will not be connecting to a network anymore. So you will not be playing dust unless it moves platforms. |

Going to have to say the community was better when there were more players. Most of what's left is not the crowd you want. Most spend zero dollars and like you said spend most of their time ruining the experience of others. Mention removing K/D as a stat and watch who defends it, but can't give an actual way it benefits the community. You'll see pretty quick where the dividing line between guys who care about the game as a hobby and the "bag of dicks" that only think about their own amusement. The asset gap and SP gap are too high for new players to surmount. So the game is doomed to failure at this point with no new players (with fresh money) to replace the ones leaving.
The F2P model IS part of the problem, but CCP bears most of the blame. Mismanagement of this brand has been monumental. It was a unique title with a real following once. Now its just a tired old low graphics laggy FPS with a player base that in most cases they would be better off without. |

Yeah, pretty much the "bag of dicks" thing. Too many dicks on the dance floor. Yeah, this game could have recovered from the fck ups, but not with groups running around seemingly doing what they can to burn it to the ground with no consequence what so ever.
I'll admit that CCP shoulders some of the blame for allowing these groups to drive players away; but in the end the people in them still are the ones that have chosen to do what they do. Chosen is the key word there, because they do have the choice and they choose to not only ruin this game but to go balls to the walls in their efforts to do so. Honestly, that bothers me but it's not the part that really gets me. What really gets me is that these people have the audacity to refuse to take responsibility for their actions by blaming CCP for allowing it to happen and even going so far as to defend their actions as if what they're doing is nothing but sunshine and rainbows.
When I first started playing I told everyone I knew about Dust, it was fcking awesome, like a modern tribes. Then I just stopped, started telling people "nah, you don't want to play Dust"; not because CCP was fcking up the game, but because of a lot of the people that play this game. I was and still am ashamed to have ever recommended this game to my family and friends; the only people I recommend this game to now is people I dislike because I'm a sadistic bastard.
Got to admit though, the hope that it'll turn out alright is strong because here I am still playing from time to time. Really though, there is still that potential for this to be one of the best FPS games to exist especially if CCP would stop *****-footing around and dedicate some real resources to it & stop enabling the people driving players away from the game.
Nice to see the community is still mostly just a bag of dicks.

Now its just a tired old low graphics laggy FPS with a player base that in most cases they would be better off without. Well hell man, I defend KDR but I'm an old school gamer from when that was the only stat. Honestly I don't see how removing KDR will help anything because these people will point to whatever stat is held in the highest respect and all the stats can be gamed. WPDR, throw out some uplinks and hide. WLR, queue sync and leave battles that aren't in your favor. Isk efficiency stomp the sh!t out of those that can't compete and run bpos or leave battle when there's actual competition.
I defend KDR because killing is the job I'm used to. I'm not the best slayer but that's what I am, a slayer. If I'm not getting a positive KDR I'm not doing my job. Sure I can logi and it's what I've been doing lately & damn good at it (in my opinion) but it ain't natural to me. I want to kill, not heal. Of course I also try to play the objective even when it's obvious there's no point in it up until the last few matches I can stomach and I just want to get some points.
I can't say F2P is part of the problem because the only reason I started playing is because it's F2P. Which of course I've sunk roughly $150 in this game so far (oddly enough it was relatively recently I started spending money on the game) and despite that, it's not why I'm so damn bitter, I started getting bitter long before I spent any money, simply because so many players seemed to go out of their way to fck everyone else over. That's the only thing I can honestly point to as the problem with this game. The fcking people that play it.
/half sober rant.
Nice to see the community is still mostly just a bag of dicks.

What is killing dust is the learning curve for new players. You get two, perhaps three rounds with other new players in the "Academy", they you are dumped into proto stomping matches. It is just not fun to be creamed the second you respawn, over and over again, and thus most new toons leave.
Another problem is the time it takes for CCP to fix broken mechanics, because they want to see how the numbers add up, meanwhile broken/op mechanics is being abused insanely during the two to four months it usually takes CCP to even acknowledge there is a problem, unless of course one of their own devs are the victims of it.
Also, the repetitive, boring, ever static 5-6 maps and outpost types means the game rather quickly becomes rather boring. |

Yeah right. This game has been infected with lag since it's conception years ago. You can go find beta footage that can verify and also 7th Son was not my first Dust character so I was there. Have you taken part in a PC match or watched one? Lag Lag Lag, while your in a suit that costs 150,000 sometimes, just to lose it because it's as if your console drank a case of beer. I won't even fight in a PC match and it has nothing whatsoever to due with Aurum, it has to do with game performance.

This analysis doesnt even apply to dust, the whale fishing phenomena going out of control and allowing them to run roughshod over the FTP portion of the player base doesnt describe this game at all. Aurum gives you more SP, but no direct advantage in combat over others. |

I did and while it does hit on some of the points that are a problem for Dust. Dust has made it so that even the whales do not ultimately get that great of an experience in their attempt to seem like they are not pay to win.
The biggest issue is that the money suck meant to "feed the whale" is a randomized box system that is nothing more than gambling. In reality this means that even the whales do not get that much of an enhanced experience instead they are just chasing the dream of getting a blueprint item meanwhile getting their inventory pumped full of bullshit that if they do use it and accidentally hit restock they literally just threw money away. Personally I think that waste of money is intentionally in place by CCP but I will give them the benefit of the doubt and at least not go into a wild rant on how scummy that is.
When it comes to the warbarge then YES that video describes it almost perfectly.

Speaking of which, I should be studying, got a test tomorrow. So school starts 365 days a year? Interesting just ignore him. the only person in the history of this game that has been a bigger fanboy than him is iron wolf sabre. they are both living in a delusional world. dust has failed because they did not anticipate the next gen consoles properly. this game would have been a hit on the ps4. they should have waited. You have no clue who I am, do you You realize I've been banned for worse **** talking about CCP than you've ever even considered? i know exactly who you are. all of us have talked crap about the developers. the difference is that some of us have done it in a way that did not result in bans. it is called intelligent thought.

at least CCP didn't add AUR things only like a special scrambler rifle you can only buy with AUR for "a limited amount of tiem!11!"
There are BPO's and skins, but you don't need them to play the game. They don't have that much of an affect on the game than in other games where buying with money gives you an outright advantage. CCP could've added an option to instantly buy 5m SP for so and so AUR, and that would be P2W

I honestly have no issues with lag. like nothing. try switching to an SSD. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0D9-0021-00005 when your PS3 is done, put it in your PC.
There is a reason you never see me in battle.
it's because I see you first.
