Besides who want to be limited to a couple of hundred game titles max after a couple of years when you can have the choice of thousands of games ranging from free to play to full triple A titles.
Consoles aren't dying anytime soon. The PS4 got 1 million on it's first day and continues to rise, there is still a steady support for console gaming. But I can sure that the next generation of consoles are going to adapt and you'll see a huge push for game streaming like we've seen with PS Now and Steams Console. Consoles will still be around for along time just not how we will remember them.

I would argue that Microsoft is showing signs of abandoning the console with everything they are dong with Xbox on windows 10. Mobile gaming is hurting the casual player bases of all platforms leaving poor sales numbers with regards to overall uptake. Between that and console attempts to further monetize through subscription models developers are far more attracted to mobile and PC where they can get the most bang for their dev bucks. As more and more console hybrids come in allowing developers to optimize to base specs while being able to reach the entire PC crowd that potential revenue versus expense ratio will shift even more phasing out consoles almost entirely. Lets face it console only players biggest argument is that they would rather just kick back with a controller and it is becoming more and more true that doing that on PC is perfectly possible without feeling like you are at a disadvantage or missing out on anything.
Yes I do agree we will see a decline in console development and on some users. The thing is we won't see it as rapidly as most claim. Anyways I can totally see Microsoft dropping the console market in the next couple generations or at least stepping away support from it because they can afford the loss, but Sony is completely dependent on PS ecosystem to be alive as a company.

Sony is just as stable outside of the console game as microsoft is, if not more. The playstation is just one of hundreds of pieces of hardware that Sony makes. They could just as easily switch to gaming tablets and create a PSN type system for those since they already create phones and tablets. Thats not even mentioning the software and media aspects of Sony.
Currently they're giving their smartphone market another shot, they've also dropped PCs and SOE and possibly will slow their TV production. They already tried that Mobile PSN thing that you mentioned and have also shut it down. Right now I believe they said PS is their largest profit market alongside Music and Movie divisions.

Total War is pretty much the only thing I play on my PC now. Currently doing French Campaign on M2:TW

Haha, I got myself in a fix with the Imperials and they keep attacking one of my wooden castles with their half stacked armies. Only got about 5 units there(one has less than 10 men) keep weekend unit at the walls, 2 infantry at the gate in circle formation and Cavalry outside to force invaders to rout.
But horse archers are my bane, haven't found an efficient way to kill them without using bait.
