I don't know how you people fly those things. Dropship controls in this game are horrible. I can fly backwards faster than I can fly forwards and I don't know why. |

you fly faster backwards because you are in a perpetual fall you don't notice this because of the screen tilt but if you go into first person you notice the difference
you can achieve faster speeds by flying at an angle rather then flying straight and the controls are not as hard as you may thing you just need to take your time to understand them and tweak the setting to your liking
flying a drop ship can be a valuable skill to have so try to learn it if you can but there's no pressure just try to have fun

LOL!!! Summa, you've JUST started working with the Dropship. Even if you've been in this game for 6 months, and spent 6 out of 7 days practicing in this vehicle, you have only JUST started learning it.
By my current observations and estimates, 6 out of every 7 players who say "I can fly it", or "it's easy once you get the hang of it", or "I am a topgun pilot who the reds can catch when I do my loops and ADS turns",... is a poor controller when compared with the 7th player---and they won't know it (or admit it) until they are really tested in a challenging team co-op match, and your teammates are asking you to quickly perform a specific task to help them out... and you get shot down by a wise red opponent before you're able to pull it off successfully.
That 7th player? He don't brag much, or she don't talk stats. He practiced for over a year religiously, or she hung out in the blue back field area of every Skirm, practicing boring technical maneuvers while the rest of us were blowing each other up in the center of town and having all the real fun.
It's what's required, Summa. That 7th player had lots of motivation, and months+MONTHS of repetitious practice.

you need to practice. its easy. the best way for you to practice is to get a gorgon, its cheap and heavy so its slower and easier to control. once you get the hang of it, try the viper, then skill into dropships and try out the ads

I use the matches where my team has given up to try out the Dropship. My goal right now is to safely land a Dropship on a high point. So far as long as I don't crash the Dropship into a building or some rock formation trying to fly it the best I can do is crash the Dropship onto a high point. |

I actually tried the Gorgon at first and I couldn't control that thing worth a damn. I had better luck calling out whatever the Quafe Dropships I have and using those. Plus with Quafe Dropships when I crash into the side of a building I at least look pretty doing it. |

I really love flying the python in first person view. It is the most difficult and rewarding thing in Dust.
Unfortunately between ADS vs A/V imbalance and the fact that shield dropships only need the tiniest tap from a rammer to make it go 0/0 instantly I just can not bring myself to spend the ISK on what is ultimately a donation to the prize pool. Then again you could always spend half the match running away after engaging for 30 - 40 seconds.

The enjoyment I get going "Danger Zone" with a viper and 2 buddies is priceless.
A militia fit viper for practice is cheaper to fit than a lot of advanced suit. One pub match usually gives you enough isk to restock 5-10 vipers.
Keep with it and have fun!

I can teach you if you'd like. I've gotten very good after a year's worth of practice and have the awful kdr to prove it. I'm still digging myself out of that hole. Keep at it and you'll get it.
Trick is to watch the yaw. Use roll then add yaw. Also, pay attention to thruster direction and amount, or predict which direction thrusters are at based on your steering. Hint: thrusters are always more or less pointing down so thrusting to the side is quicker than trying to rotate the thrusters from front to back and vice a versa. Thrust up then down stablizes. Cut thrust when low and/or landing and focus on orientation of DS.

I need to work on not flipping the thing upside down the moment I try to take off forcing me to have to call in another Dropship and recall the one I managed to flip over; I have done this several times now. |

I wish it was more like the Hueys/Cobras in Battlefield Vietnam, or the choppers in Battlefield 2, those were such a pleasure to fly, and you could zip around at low level or fly through structures because the hitboxes weren't absurdly off. Probably some of the most fun Ive ever had in a game is making my gunner **** his pants repeatedly in BF:V while flying 2 feet off the ground through dense jungle. |

This is true. Example : at first I was always flipping the damn thing. Then after x amount of takes, I didn't even realise that I was flying properly.
