This is a bad idea, really.
Strafing shouldn't allow you to take no damage at all because of bad hit detection (because it is bad hit detection, it's not you being particularly good at doing the mighty "figure 8 of death" that anyone can do), it should, instead allow you to take less damage because you avoided like some of the bullets. Some of the bullets.
We have talked countless times about the correlation between strafing speed / internet speed / distance from the battle server that anyone who really wants a fair fight can't ignore.
I'm probably going to repeat myself, but:
1) looks like Dust uses a server-based hit detection 2) Using a server-based hit detection, the lower your ping, the better hit detection gets 3) If you strafe in front of an enemy latency works with you and against him because he will shoot at the position you were 50, 60, 100 etc milliseconds before. 4) Lag compensation indeed works (otherwise the game would be unplayable) although it fails when you communicate with the server faster than your opponent and when you strafe quickly. 5) Like this wasn't enough, this game suffers a lot of framerate drops,so, in particularly laggy games, you would probably have even more problems tracking an opponent strafing because your framerate doesn't keep up the strafing speed.

I'm sick of all these a-holes abusing broken game mechanics, just like in MAG, they knew hit detection was broken so they'd spend all their time jamming triangle to go into prone and back so hard that some of them would literally bounce on their stomachs, lie prone in midair and kill you.
Same crap in DUST, no gungame just strafe and spray, good old mk.0 and acr................................. So gun game is determined by two people standing still and shooting at each other and seeing who kills the other first?
Good gungame means literally doing good while using shi*ty weapons/underperforming weapons: it often referred to people who could get a certain number of headshots in the shortest amount of time (in order to be as deadly as a good weapon).
The "Gungame" was sorta exaggerated in MGO series where you almost couldn't get a kill that wasn't for headshot.
As you can see, gungame doesn't involve "figure 8" or "circle strafing" at all. It just means being good at aiming, positioning, awareness etc.
