It's like trying to improve mining veldspar in empire more interesting in EVE, while we should think about low-sec and null-sec.
Public matches are Empire matches, so I think we should make them boring enough to motivate players to go foreword and try FW, PC or even something new, 0.0 related.
Speaking of your ideas I think that making Ambush close-quarters only it's very good idea. It will give players feeling that they play much bigger matches because of it, like 32v32.
I have slightly different opinion about Domi then you. I agree that Domination point should be harder to defend. Right now it looks like that - who ever will take terminal as first, spam uplinks, nanohives, explosives around it and then focus on killing attackers, successfully pushing them to redline over time. It's harder for attackers to take the point because they need to find all uplinks first and defend they owns, and do it on unfriendly ground. I have two ideas that would refresh Dominations matches:
a) I think that point of interest in Domination matches should be move from destroying enemy MCC to something that do not require MCC presences on field at all, like anchoring/onlining defend link from 'Skirmish 1.0'. Teams should be divided in two, same as clone count, so we would have 4 individual teams for 8 players in each team, two squads for 4 or one big squad. Teammates should be able to distinguish team A from team B, C and get extra reward for annihilate it mostly by they own team. Wins who ever anchor/online link or clonekill remaing teams. - It would bring way much more action to field because better/clever team would have to outsmart 24 players with they 8, it is 1:4 instead 1:1 like today. Noob players that usually jump in to HAV to keep shooting enemy MCC with they militia blaster would loos match as first because of 50% clone count of current Domination; they would no longer pull good players to loosing match because of they chaotic understanding of match mechanic. Killing everything that is moving instead of fighting for point would be possible but it would involve some risks and surgery precision. Being best team on field not necessary will guarantee victory, because for example: second best team can play smart and let you bleed out on two other team from time to time picking your guys from distant.
b) Let's leave Domination as it is(MCC's fight) with two exceptions to hacking mechanic, and keeping hacked point: 1. Time between when terminal stooped being hacked by friendly player and it become blue to our team can be speed up by friendly players presented on terminal grid(10-15meters from terminal) - if there is something like 6 players close to terminal it get hacked close to instantly, if there is just one guy it takes normal time. 2. If there is no players(or just 2-3 players) around friendly terminal(5 meters) it automatically switches to neutral in cycle of 60 seconds, that is starting to count right after terminal being hacked - It would be good counter to redline campers.
Acquisition random timers would change a lot. I would be even more happy if we would remove terminals with that change as well, and we would have to hack something that felt from sky. Terminals are killing that feeling of unknowing where will be the next point, darknes of new eden.
Skirmish whether on FW or not should be way much more complex. Today picking point to hack highly depend on aspects like: ground level of terminal(higher is better), close proximity to another terminal, closest point to our redline ..and that's it. Skirmish matches mechanic should get serious shakeup. While planing our progression on map we should be considering on taking XLT that deal EM damage or EXP, so they will destroy MCC faster. We should get more Assets to hack that works on our favor like by disabling all equipment around our terminals or blocking it with impenetrable shields so they can not be hacked, or instantly taking all CRU on map or partial of them. I would not mind to get terminals that activate some kind of SAM missiles, or other defend system that protect against vehicles.
