I am hoping that the procedurally generated terrain doesn't result in a bunch of maps that at canyons and mesas but with different pathing.
I would like to have some more variety, more open ground for vehicle maneuver, more ability to feint or deceive the enemy. Stuff like that.
I am guessing that that will be the case, but depending on how the procedural coding works, it might just be a bunch of canyon, mesa building blocks put together in different configurations, which would be bad. |

the unreal engine does not have procedural generation, to my knowledge.
the differences between maps will not be terrain, but lighting, weather, infrastructure and placement of said infrastructure. |

Seeding the Universe
Fanfest Video
The maps are being generated by a software code so that they are all different.
I would like to know how different.
If we have to fight on the same stupid canyon for every match, this game will be terrible.. and I am a CCP fanboy. |

The unreal engine may not support procedural generation, but is designed to read maps that Can be generated that way. The map doesn't have to be generated in the middle of a match. I imagine the way it's going to work is CCP with create a map generator that will automatically build maps, then have a human look through them to see if there's anything too weird going on, then certify it as good to go. |

Ok, so i rewatched the entire "seeding the universe" video from fanfest.
It seems they are making some number of physical height maps that will then have a procedural system of making them lush or desert or night or day and where buildings go and what not.
So the heights will not be procedural, just all the stuff on it.
Also, the map we have now is like 1/10th the size of what they are building...so Dropships are gonna be real popular real fast.
I am glad to know that we won't be fighting in the same stupid canyon all the time. And I am glad that hit won't just be a different flavor of canyon over and over. |
