Hey their fellow mercs!
I'm pretty new to the game, I started about a month ago and have been working my battles with pretty much just starter fit suits and militia loadouts, I noticed I had several hundred thousand SP and decided I'd use it, as I got to the marketplace to search for weapons, dropshots, etc. For a new loadout I noticed I had unlocked some weapons and stuff, so to make the long story short I went with a scout load out in mind, and here it is:
Drop Suit: 'NEO' Scout A-I Primary: Breach Assault Riffle Secondary: Breach Scrambler Pistol Grenade: Locus Grenade Extra: Basic Cloak Field, Uplink 2 Basic PG's 2 Basic CPU's
--------------------+ As you can see from above this is a pretty pricey dropsuit to purchase in large units, so I am open to suggestions and constructive criticism on this load out.

Its unusual. The pgs and cpus are not helping you other than fitting your cloak. Might drop the cloak until you can fit it by upgrading a scout suit. Then you can use low and high slots that add utility.
If you like the breach AR, try the shotgun you may like it better.
There is no evil greater than hyperbole.

I've found out that basic scout fits are too weak. Being a scout in Dust is pricey, if you wanna survive your encounters. My recommendation is that you start playing as the intended role of the scout: get enemy intel, strategize spawn points and secure and invade home objectives. For this you wanna spec into Drop Uplinks and Active Scanners.
Drop Uplinks help your team by making spawn points closer to objetives. Since the scout is fast, you can start dropping uplinks at key points near the objective faster than any other suit. With the Active Scanner, you are effectively providing enemy intel to your team. At the same time, it lets you approach unsuspecting targets from various paths without being detected.
I'm started to use an AmScout as well, with this fit:
2 precision enhancers 3 ferroscale plates 1 repairer
Combat Rifle Flaylock Pistol Flux Grenades Active Scanner Drop Uplinks
All modules are complex though, and the suit, weapon and equipment are Adv. But you can create a similar fit with basic modules. Though the scanner has to be Adv. or greater to be of any use: the precision of basic ones can only detect heavy suits. Drop Uplinks are fine at basic. I also prefer having my main weapon at Adv. level. The AmScout is made for detecting and hunting other scouts as it has the highest bonus for scan precision. |

What I recommend you do is get an Apex Scout suit( I personally vouch for the tiger fit) as soon as possible because as wyrmhero said it is really expensive to be a scout in this game. The Apex tiger comes with a cloak fields and remote explosives standard while the serpent comes with cloak and a rep tool I believe. Then I'm not sure what the apex gallente scout has. Its also very money efficient and even though I have plenty of money I still find it efficient to use apex. In fact both of my main slayer fits are on apex(Apex Tiger and Apex Rasetsu) its not for everybody but it might be worth your time to try to trade up. Hope this was helpful

Don't use a cloak until you're lvl 5 scout, and even then it takes a lot of resources to fit.
I'd argue it's better to learn how to scout (if that's what you're going for) without a cloak since the cloak isn't exactly fool-proof. Use it as a way to augment your sneakiness. For example, if you cloak an run right in front of an enemy, he will almost definitely see you because of the blue hue.
As for fitting advice, I suggest investing SP into dampeners (via the profile dampening skill) and try to get to 20dB (this means only focused scanners can scan you; iirc you need a complex and enhanced damp at lvl5 to get this) and focus the remaining slots on hp mods (maybe a single damage mod too). Amarr scouts get a bonus to scan precision so that many be worth investing in in the future, but o highly recommend you focus on fitting, defensive, and other support skills first.
I HIGHLY recommend you chack out http://www.protofits.com and experiment with suits and skill points and get the feel for militia weapons and suits before you invest in something.

To be fairly honest, I see absolutely no way that this suit is pricy (Don't waste your AUR on NEO suits.... please). My "pricy" suits cost around 150k -200k (+300k-500k if it has my officer weapons) each.
Now to the main point. New players using scouts is a very big gamble. Eventually you're going to get into very "No scout friendly" maps or games. Maybe everyone of your friends wants to try Ambush and you get some big open maps. Being a scout there puts you at a big disadvantage.
I'm not necessarily trying to turn you away from scout but I want you to realize playing a scout is a certain type of style, not like the other roles that are pretty straight forward, and you don't have a lot of health so you will have to run away a lot. Once you come to the conclusion, "I hate being scout", then you will have waste a ton of SP. Also Amarr scout is more or less a small assault/scout hunter suit. The real sneaky scout and [in my opinion, the best!] scout is Gallente scout if that's the playstyle you were looking for. Gallente scout is the dampened scout that hides under all the scans, the one that all the scouts try to play around..... The feared scout that is the only scout able to get under the Duvolle Focused Scans!
Now as for your fit. Instead of just telling one, I'm going to help you help yourself.
If you have to fit PG and CPU upgrades on your scout suit, you're doing something wrong. So get rid of the cloak field which is the obvious reason.
tbh, good scouts who use cloak fields only do so when shotgunning, nova knifing or doing other tasks that are more or less "Get in, kill stuff, and get out". So if you were thinking of using that a lot, you have the wrong idea of scouting. Cloak is a smooth escape tactic where you run and "parkour" out of a dangerous situation, then cloak in a corner or cloak when the enemy can't see you so you can keep running away (and feel badass).
As was stated before, don't use the cloak field until you're a proto scout (-45% of the cpu and pg cost of the cloak for lv 5 scouts). It''ll be a waste of space and make the rest of your suit weaker. Also basic scouts are weak because basic ferroscale plates/reactive plats (The two plates a scout should use) give a really low amount of health and basic armor reps give very little help. (Pay attention, I'm telling you which lows you'll be using).
Your equipment 99.99% of the time should consist of at least one uplink. You can place them in locations when the enemy team is slaughtering your team, that will cause your teammates to flank them from behind or get away safely. Scouts are what get teams out of the redline most times.
Your equipment choices consist of Active Scanner, Uplinks (this is fantastic!), Nanohive, Cloak Field, Remote Explosives, or Proximity Remote Explosives. Any combinations of those equipment choices are up to you *Pushes the Uplink in your face*.
Light weapon and sidearm are up to you but you want to do a lot of damage fast. (I used to use the CR mostly, occassionally the AR, other times Shotgun or Dual Wield Sidearms :D). So pick something comfortable. I'd advise against the BrAR because it shoots slow (I'm aware of the high damage). My prefered scout sidearms are either Scrambler Pistol of any variant or a Bolt Pistol.
Nowadays, your high slots might be Myos (Oh my....). But your choices are shield extender, precision enhancer (to hunt other scouts), dmg mod (I'd say stay away from these..... unless Dual Wield Sidearms!), or myo. Choice and combination all up to you.
Now the main roles of Each Race's Scout. They are but not limited to
Amarr - Hunting other scouts, small tanked assault, getting to good uplink spots quickly, flanking, tanked as an assault but faster strafe than assaults.
Caldari - Hunting other scouts, heightened passive scans, solo scout, small shield tanked assault, intel on battlefield via passive scans.
Gallente - Espionage as the most dampened scout, holding points and instilling fear, flanking, taking objectives and protecting until the objective is hacked, scout hunting, sexy shotgunning
Minmatar - Speed Hax and counter hax, slicing through dropsuits with nova knives as if they were wind, holding objective and clearing rooms **However do note that this scout is the weakest in terms of ewar, as in you have to sacrifice a lot of HP (relatively speaking) to combat other well equipped scouts, so DO NOT make this your first scout and only dropsuit. You'll have a hard time**
Choice is yours
The rest you can figure out or pm me in game. Remember, it'll be a tough role at first but if you think you like it, then go for it. I just advice getting a medium dropsuit to fall back on when you don't feel like being a scout (Other than frontline starter fit).
Happy Hunting.

Post above mine ^^^ boss information! Take it to heart
I respect what you're doing, the cloak is an awesome tool, and it will eventually get to the point where you can fully proto-fit a scout and use a basic-cloak without any of the pg/cpu upgrades (this is where you want to be, 20M SP or so later).
I will say however that I use scouts like this: use your low-profile to get into position, your knives to kill your target, and your cloak as your egress/defense to escape the position. This is a little backwards from the advice you'll commonly see, but hopefully it helps you.
Being a scout is very rewarding, but requires a lot of paitence! Keep trying.
