Problem: With the release of SKINS and APEX suits, it has become difficult to visually identify a suits tier and class. Many people, including myself, use this quick information to make split second decisions on how to engage that target. TacNet information can only be viewed when aiming at an enemy which can be tedious and time consuming in delecate situations.
Solution: created custom chevrons for each class and tier of dropsuit. It could be as simple as Lt/Sc/Me/As/Lo/Hv/Co/Se for classes (hint: small > large) with S/A/P/O next to it. This would only be for the HUD and not the Minimap or full map.
Thoughts?

sadly its not that easy, do you go by suit or fittings? If you take APEX suits as an example, they are proto suits with basic/militia level fittings. Meta level grading is also rather hit and miss, Full proto heavys tend to match full advanced scout and logi, purely because of heavys have more specialised fitting layouts and lack equipment slots. |

So scanners and shared passives would reveal not only where everyone is, and highlight them on the HUD, but also what they are as well?

My idea was have the traditional chevrons center over their head (this is what will show up when scanned) and then flanked left and right with the suit class and tier (only when lone-of-sight scanned).
Though honestly I'd rather see scans only show up on the minimap, but that's another topic.

Edit: In addition, change APEX tacnet info from PRO to APEX before aiming. -1 This would only equal logis being singled out.
I bet you saw a yellow suit and said "hue hue a logi,an easy kill". Then died to it and found out it was an assault.

My suggestion?
Don't be stupid and charge headfirst into enemies assuming victory.
Camouflage is a valid battle strategy and you're just frustrated you can't adapt.
So,you ask CCP to do your thinking for you.

I think this should be solved with a combination of icons and color. Chevrons would remain red, but if you linger your reticule over a suit for 0.5 secs or whatever an icon appears next to it. The icon represents the suit type/role, and the color of the icon would represent the tier of the suit. Colors could also be used in the kill feed/death screen to denote tier. CCP should use the WoW tiering colors because that seems to be a video game standard.
Best PvE idea ever!

To reiterate, this information will only be available when line-of-sight scanned. It would just be a quicker way to read the TacNet info already gleamed from the bottom text. Of course the bottom text will be more accurate with details, like how much health they have, etc.
And yes, that happens more often than not, but with every suit. You handle a standard commando different from a photo heavy with a light weapon, even a a standard assault verse a Proto logi.
