Aeon Amadi wrote:This thread is being made as a request toward the community to pull together low-level ideas for Lore and Immersion in Dust 514. To put it clearly, some things are obviously out of our scope. This thread is looking for the low hanging fruit. Ideas that can be easily accomplished with minimal development input. An example of something that could be feasible would be adding a description to the 'Brutor' Minmatar SKIN's that explain, briefly, who the Brutor are. So rather than seeing "This SKIN only applies to Heavy Minmatar Dropsuit frames!" you would see this: Quote:"A martial, strong-willed people, the Brutor hold their tribal heritage close to their hearts. Strong advocates of transforming the Republic into a tribal-based government, they would love nothing more than for all seven of the Minmatar tribes to reunite as one nation. The Brutor are renowned for living regimented, disciplined lives. Despite presenting a tough, no-nonsense exterior, they are deeply introspective and "in the moment", aware of even the smallest detail. Immersed in ancient martial traditions that begin at childhood, they are physically robust individuals and intimidating to face in the flesh." An example of something that is not as valuable is something like, "I think that we should have full character customization with all the different races and blood lines" as this is a very high development goal that would pull away from other tasks with higher priority. Any opportunity to fill in other-wise dead space with informative, immersive aspects of the Lore will be good suggestions here. Is it possible for CCP to add the ability to title change between the ranks we've 'earned', and possible a new rank signifying our blood-line choice? |

I'm a fan of that I like [Sergeant] Sgt Kirk :D.Depending on how Rattati responds to more titles in-game I'd like to shoot him some ideas to boot back up the possibility of FW ranks, if not for every rank every other rank. I'd like the Title system being something that really means something to the player, especially to FW guys. We have no friends after all. My only friend is the federation. Indeed, i figured it would be a very small work-load that could possibly add a deep level of immersion into your character.
But i fear CCP trying to cash in on it and make titles AUR puchasable - but how cool would it be if you could use LP to purchase special faction titles?
I'd kill to be called an imperial or Templar <3 |

I'd kill to be called an imperial or Templar <3 I don't think they'd do that with FW titles honestly. The LP Titles shouldn't be bought with LP either because you already earned it by reaching that level. If someone got 612 wins to get to level 10 for a Faction they fully deserve the title they are given by their own merit. Think it's possible for CCP to tie in achivements that unlock the titles? Like, say, hacked 1,000 objectives and get the title, "Decrypter" |

Avallo Kantor wrote:If I could throw in my two cents on Immersion factors, I would suggest making the corps you fight for in Public Matches be a bit more focused, and help drive a "player-centric" lore angle that is so important to New Eden.
To do this I would propose the following steps:
Reduce the number of corps that can be "drawn" as the Attacker and Defender to a much smaller pool. (For instance, only Quafe, Core Complexion, and Effir And Co)
Potentially differ these pools by game type. (So different corporations will be drawn for attacker and defender in Acquisition than in Skirmish)
Keep track of which corp wins and which corp loses. (As far as we know CCP already keeps a track of win / losses for matches, so adding a collection metric based on the actual corps should not be too difficult)
Finally, add in some lore snippets and news based on weekly / monthly statistics, with a bit of lore explaining why Quafe is so fevered about hiring mercenaries to go kick the teeth in of Core Complexion, with these news segments including some data on win / loss ratios, and "MVPs" who were essential in the operations.
Even potentially tie in some rewards or store items based on these outcomes. (Example, Quafe suits going on sale, or Core Complexion introducing a new SKIN)
The idea here is to make the world feel more alive by having lore created around player action, rather than lore being independent of player action. Having those corp tags pop up on public matches should give players a reason to care about them. The idea has a low impact development cost (as it mostly involves slimming down the possible pool of corps to pull from when making contract sides and keeping track of metrics we likely already have) And the lore / news updates do not have to be that involved or frequent. (Weekly at max, monthly at min) This is a good thought, and viable from the looks of it.
however, limiting the amount of corps on one side will only leave many more games half emptied. The best solution here is to give another reason for players to leave NPE corps and into player corps, and then reward them for being in squad together. Or one or the other.
Right now you'd leave the NPE corps to avoid taxes, but that's not a reason to actually build a corp. And attempting PC requires a strong foothold in the game, which you won't get for nearly half a year.
So, there needs to be a different incentive entirely to make players want to find each other, form corps that focus on FW and team play.
I suggest squads that win a game send the corp some kind of extra reward depending on squad size, ISK or CP or some such thing. Preferably CP rewards, so smaller corps can focus on elite players that play a lot rather then an army of scrubs. People not wearing corp tag in squad would not count to the bonus added, they'd act like an empty slot. |

Terry Webber wrote:Aeon Amadi wrote:Terry Webber wrote:How about an in-game encyclopedia that works similarly to the Codex from the Mass Effect series? New entries would be added as players explore the game, detailing the history of New Eden and provide information about the four main factions, their sub-factions, pirate groups, technology, etc. I don't know the plausibility or feasibility of this but I love the idea either way. Maybe an in-game link to the Evelopedia, at the very least. Is it actually possible to link the game to an internet browser? No, but at least people would know where to look.
There should be a section in the Neocome where all of the EvE's lore is stored to go through, i'd love to see it all organized in-game so we can fully understand wtf we're fighting for. But i understand it's a huge story, spanning many books. A site address is better then nothing, haha. |

CCP doesn't have to go crazy making new assets, just give us some text and an agenda and let us pick sides for the duration.
Hell they could be their own events.
E.G
Amarr + Caldari Assault on Minmatar + Gallente outlying systems. Give us a bit of lore about the who and the why's and then let us pick a side or something I dont know. It is probably best to start moving away from Allied thinking as I suspect very very soon that the four factions are going to start fighting against each other. I hope it is going to be another event like Battle for Caldari Prime. I doubt it. Caldari Prime took eight months to organize and it took both teams working cohesively to make happen. For what was only a few hours, that is an insane amount of dev budget to utilize. True, but this time they know better, at least i hope. I can see the Amarr going on a crusade to avenge the Empress, or like you said, all factions rampaging each other. I want an event like Prime, as in, we can actually play in it. Not just, "oh yea, this just happened, mmhm, yeap, we are going to **** you and let just the capsuleers do it; you are going to just be stuck doing same ol same old. Silly dust bunny, events are for those that matter" BFCP may have been a wash, but that doesn't mean that it should be the end of events like those. And VAHZ makes a good point - to those who do follow the lore, any edition or nod to the matter-of-fact in game that it happened would go a long way in bringing players into the EvE universe. A news section for latest updates on EvE lore, for instance. Or maybe the TV could flicker to a small news report using an EvE face and a typed report we can look at. Not sure how viable that is, though.
But the TV itself could turn into a menu that could act as an encyclopedia for news, updates on FW and PC, etc. It's weird that it's the market.... |
