Then stop the BS about the RR. They are rifle with 80m range and a normal HS boost. Sniper rifles have 450m range and a great HS bonus.
And please please don't tell me you'd rather get killed by a camped sniper rifle than a RR.
I would rather get killed by a sniper than a RR: 1. sniper rifle positions can be avoided in all but a few cases, thus invalidating 1/16 of the enemy players.
2. Rail Rifle users will actually move forward and hack/use equipment/etc.
3. if the sniper keeps killing my idiot teamates they are very easy to kill, due to their static gameplay and pretty easy to read positioning. |

Instead of pull the trigger in everything that moves on the field, try to aim for head shots and stop complaining and ask for buffing things.
If everyone who used a sniper rifle was good enough to get head shots every time then a lot of people would stop playing dust (it would become a pure sniping game against S rank players that frankly would ruin the game for 90% of it's players). This post was meant to open up the sniping role a bit more to encourage more combat sniping, counter sniping, and average level snipers being able to enjoy the weapon more. May be the problem is not the sniper rifle itself, but other issues like hit detection, lag, etc or may be a better scope could help. I do not agree with more damage even a little more because it is possible to get good kills with the standard tier. Also, Calmando already have 2% damage per level without any damage mods.
I just want to counter any suggestion that the Calmando is anything but trash (outside of the redline), it combines the vulnerability of sniping (sitting there not moving in a crouched position) with high scan profile and slow speed, **** regen, and not very high health. Its absolutely terrible and you'd be better off with a scout suit as a sniper 99 times out of 100 (again unless youre in the redline). |

I don't know, I do pretty good with my calmando in battle... but as I pointed out, as a sniper I often don't have any opportunities in which the sniper rifle is a better choice than my rail rifle (I would like to see all primaries see equal opportunities). :(
Your analysis of the rail rifle vs. sniper rifle while on the field is pretty accurate, most maps dont have alot of opportunity to snipe instead of using the rail rifle. Some maps have some positions that can be used by a calmando pretty well to sort of backstop your team using the sniper and rail rifles, even then you are very vulnerable to anyone who decides you are annoying enough to sneak up on and kill.
As far as the Calmando doing pretty well, I can do ok with it too, but if I compare how I do with the Calmando with how I do with the amarr or min assaults, or amarr/min logi, or min/amarr sentinel, or caldari or min scout, min commando, etc. Literally every suit I have is better by a rediculous margin except the caldari assault, which also sucks but is STILL better than the Calmando. |
