Most games I go into these days I notice that rail tech is by far the most used by top leaderboard players match after match. RRs ARRs and Bolt pistols seem increasingly common.
Are we concerned? Has the meta become too stale? This is not a whine or nerf thread, im just curious as to what you guys think and do you also notice this?

Whatever is on the standard dropsuit is typically what public users bend toward. Being trained on a weapon kind of makes people prefer it.
The current weapon equipped on the default Frontline... if I recall correctly... is the Rail Rifle.

Rail tech does equal damage to shields and armor.
Its the middle of the road weapon.
Suits carrying it can be wrecked by SCR or Kinetics depending on their resistance but that is why you see a lot of hybrid tech. It is slower to kill overall but kills everything equally.

id say rail has about a 70% player preference tbh, but its far from OP.
just about every gun bar the base varient assualt rifle is OP at the moment

All rail weapons misfire alot. Why is this a problem? No clue, caldari suits have bad hit detection(blue shielding) and all their weapons missfire, shoot blanks, blue shield when making contact, even nova knifes do this.

ARR is very easy to use. Especially in CQC. RR is the only automatic long range rifle (I don't count laser)

You know why? What do you see these recent matches??? People don't like to try any more. They leave hacks and stuff. Others only care about KD. What's the best way to do kill and not die? Kill from distance you can't be killed.
And unfortunately, 2 of the long range weapons are op. The scrambler and the assault rail rifle. (The vanilla rail rifle is balanced)
Tell me, who should win in a cqc, Gallente assault with ar or caldari assault with arr? The galass. Unfortunately, atm, that hard to do because the arr packs too much a punch in cqc and needs a kick buff to make it worse at cqc.
Also, all caldari weapons have the highest base damages. Put some damage and your gonna wreck. Just a couple reasons why they are seen more often.

Forge Gun , blank firing / ghost firing .. can't tell how many vehicles have gotten away because of this and how many times I've died because it blank / ghost fires all at opportune times for the enemy for some reason .
RR , can't tell you how many times that I had to fire / stop firing because of no damage registering / fire / still no register , all the while the enemy is moving closer and firing but their weapon has zero hit resister problems and I die due to the inaccuracy of the hit detection and damage intake there in .
Large Rails , overheat from one round because the whole clips fires and no damage registers but I only fired it once . For some reason that thing has a mind of it's own . Death after death because the enemy has zero problems with their weapons registering , all the while my large turret ghost / blank fires . POS
Small Rails , can't tell you how many times I fly and tangle with ADS's / DS's and I'm firing and no resister of damage intake for the enemy occurs . Have to fire , check if damage is registering , fire again , check again ... oh it's not registering so I have to fall back but I'm getting XT-missiles pounding me as well as swarms now in the chase because what once was an advantage has turned because of the 2 year old rail bug that no one seems to care to get rid of .
I just did another respec and took every last point out of vehicles because of this . Just tired of the ish .
You might see many with RR's and I have everything Caldari maxed now except the scout ( I just hate scouts .. they think there all good but you should get kills when no one can see you on your tac net and your taking fire , all of a sudden you get SG or NK in the back and these players act like they just tore down the Berlin wall or something , most of them are scrubs ( not all but most ) ) but the only weapons that I can depend on are those that are NOT caldari , they don't ghost / blank fire .

I have been saying that the AR should be the king of CQC for the longest time and I hate GAL's ( the race ) , I can agree with that but to say that the ARR or any RR needs another kick buff shows your bias , you can barely hold that thing straight at times even with burst intervals and sometimes you just cant burst fire because of the POS hit detection problems , so you have to fire and pray that it register .
Caldari might have the highest base damage because even though they have the most high slots , shields suck and are the first to take damage and Caldari are slow , have weak stamina and stamina recovery along with the least amount of armor health , so if you want those shields to work right you have to use regulators , energizers and chargers ( that's why most complain about shields because they don't want to do that and is the only race that's gimped so much and HAVE to do that to make their niche work for them ) so you don't have time for all DMG mods , you can do that just like you could dual tank and hell , sometimes you need to just to be effective but the fact that they have to use at least three mods for their niche to work might have something to do with that .
Least low slots / armor HP's , bad stamina / stamina regeneration and having to fit shield plates , chargers , energizers / rechargers as well as using one of the lows for regulators might have something to do with them having such high DPS for their weapons . No other suit has to do what the Caldari does just to make it work .

range has always been better than DPS. CCP's data would show that if they collected it properly. ever since beta, the weapons with the most range wins. which is why they removed all the range enhancing skills from the game.

id start with making the assault suit weapon fitting bonus only apply to racial weapons. |

I understand , I'm not touchy like most .. might have been in the past but this is the internet , people say crap just to get a rise out of someone so I understand but I see Amarr Commando's using AR's , I see Gal Commando's using laser's .. I think that some just like what they like and the fact that you can use a long rang weapon on a suit that you can armor tank and get 20 sum odd rps, might have something to do with that as far as you seeing what you do .
I see people mix and matching all the time though .
I never give it much thought beyond them using a weapon for a suit that's not covered by the bonus of the suit but that's their choice .

I could go for that , that's actually how it should have been to begin with .
That just makes since to me besides heavy suits because we don't have enough heavy weapons but your spot on Deathwind .
Might boost their reskill sales or just cause people to play more to balance out their set up's .
Might boost booster sales as well but things seem to go backwards for the most part around here .
Just giving a skill for the suit isn't enough and what's going on now shows , they should change that .

Fit a ARR and 3 damage mods then boom you just became an armor tanked suit that can beast a distance.

And I would be one of the first to scream at CCP if they added in any sort of arbitrary limits or restrictions however I am sure we can all agree that the regular AR is not up to par.
All of the assault variant other rifles all seem to out do the regular AR in actual gameplay. Paper stats can only tell you so much....

I think it's funny that when rail rifles were first introduced, everyone said range was the most useful attribute. Logis were OP at the time.
Then scouts and sentinels were buffed, leaving assaults underpowered. Everyone said that range was irrelevant. They said scouts and sentinels were OP being specialists in close range combat, as CQC was all that mattered.
Now assaults have been buffed (and sentinels and scouts have been nerfed) everyone's back to saying that range is the most important attribute.
Perhaps the ARR is just a bit too good at everything. I suggest looking at mag size.
RRs and ARs have the largest mags (damage wise), but the least flexibility. ARs are short range, RRs are long range. SCrs and CRs are versatile with regards to range, but have smaller mags / heat restriction.
The ARR breaks this pattern by being both good at short and long range, and having (I believe) the highest damage per mag of any rifle.
Perhaps it just needs a mag reduction. Please correct me if I'm wrong. |

Yep, all rail tech has this glitch / bug as well as forge guns on occasion. I used to absolutely hate that bug when in a rail tank or forge gunning as with such slow firing weaponry it can easily be life or death. Its still painful when using the regular rifles too although it is much faster to resolve the bug with the rr`s I have found.

I've noticed that many of the 'top' players are using rail tech. I can't understand why though. On paper, the ARR has less DPS than the ACR, an arguably worse damage profile, and horrid kick, as well as a charge-up time. I don't understand why people use it.

Hell , I'll back you on that but I guess someone or something has to be at the bottom of the pole and like Caldari suits , the AR is the Caldari suit of rifles .
It should be the best at CQC though but it seems that they just don't know how to do that without making the gun OP or weak in other area's .
I'm sure you remember when people were crying " AR514 " and now it has suffered for that , maybe they just don't want another take of the same again but that gun should be the best in CQC and it's not .
I think that the damage profiles of all rifles need another look but things don't happen around here unless certain people speak out or everyone backs a movement , I've noticed this much .
If damage profiles changed , that might be a way to bring all rifles into the actions that they should be in but right now SR's kill armor and shields as well as most rifles , they don't do one thing better then another , they do both just the same with the difference being in their ranges and that needs to change so that you would see a greater difference in their functionality .
Probably the reason that anything that has range is the most used .

Hell , I'll back you on that but I guess someone or something has to be at the bottom of the pole and like Caldari suits , the AR is the Caldari suit of rifles . It should be the best at CQC though but it seems that they just don't know how to do that without making the gun OP or weak in other area's . I'm sure you remember when people were crying " AR514 " and now it has suffered for that , maybe they just don't want another take of the same again but that gun should be the best in CQC and it's not . I think that the damage profiles of all rifles need another look but things don't happen around here unless certain people speak out or everyone backs a movement , I've noticed this much . If damage profiles changed , that might be a way to bring all rifles into the actions that they should be in but right now scrambler rifles kill armor and shields as well as most rifles , they don't do one thing better then another , they do both just the same with the difference being in their ranges and that needs to change so that you would see a greater difference in their functionality . Probably the reason that anything that has range is the most used .
I'm not the oldest beta player around here that's for sure but I have been around for at least 2 seasons of AR514. I actually loved the days where TacAR's and Lasers were the **** to have. But that's my early days nostalgia kicking in.

Whatever is on the standard dropsuit is typically what public users bend toward. Being trained on a weapon kind of makes people prefer it. The current weapon equipped on the default Frontline... if I recall correctly... is the Rail Rifle. Thats for caldari suits. Gal Min and Amarr have there own respective weapons and modules

ACR doesn't have enough ammo in the clip. With the Scramblers & ARR's you can kill multiple foes in one clip & you get more range. |
