It would be nice to call out where to go where to spawn. Etc.. yellow bunker or bunker number 3. Any suggestions? |

Good idea maybe a grid system like on a chess board since the maps will be changing a lot. A-E and 1-9 so you can say got to grid A 7. his would be very helpful in group communication. |

this issue came up in the bugs forum:
Wiz Minkey said, "While it's great to say "it's a tactics thing, learn not to spawn where you're being camped," how are we supposed to communicate which spawn point is being camped? There is no differing names between the spawn points, and they're scattered so haphazardly it takes 10 seconds to describe the area they're in :P
"Hey guys, I just got spawn camped at... uh... the spawn point kinda near the middle, but a bit to the west... between the rocks that kinda look like Italy and France... you know, over by the turret? Yeah, anyway... look out for that."
Would be nice to have the various spawn points and turrets numbered or some other method that differentiates them quickly. Maybe give us map sector blocks to reference as well when discussing tactics on the fly:
"Guys, regroup at A2, then we'll sweep east and then south towards C5 to cap that spawn point."
Hm... I like the idea of Map Grids the more I think of it ;)"
Ending quotes<--I would like all spawn points to be numbered (RCU's and mobile droplinks.) Although I'm not sure it would be neccesary for dropships with builtin uplinks to be numbered, might as well hit them with a TAG as well. And TACT MAP GRIDS would be AWESOME. It would improve battlecoms a thousandquaddrillion-fold-twice-times. CCP DOOOOOOOOEEEEIT!
PS: if you like the idea too Keep bumping this topic until the DEVS SEE IT. SERIOUSLY! :-) BUMP PARTY! |

Yes after playing with some of you today with mics. It became real apparent we need this. Cause after saying east of or north of a by the split in the rock by the turret come pick me up . The guy goes uhhhhh. Not an easy way to explain your location in a hurry. |

i would take a map grid over named objects. Named objects wouldn't hurt, but IMO they NEED to put in a grid system with their maps. |

+1 for the grid idea.
I think the spawn points should be named by military phonetic (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc...) while objectives are named with what they are and a number or color. So Terminal Red or Turret 2.
Another way of doing it is naming them like the military names objectives. The US Military generally picks a theme and names everything of that type within the theme. An example of that is naming objectives after baseball teams. The game could carry that over by using system names, ship names, etc.
Just thoughts. |

I put up a thread relating to this earlier....
Until something programmed in is in place might I suggest a temporary solution? The main area of name confusion is the first stage of Skirmish modes. So for that area start at the North end (there IS a North indicator on your HUD) and label them numerically on the East and West side going down, dividing the map in half. So the clone tanks just South West of attacker spawn would be West 1, the ones a bit south of that would be West 2. The spawn the defenders start out with just outside of attacker spawn would be East 1, the one to the east and a little south of that would East 2. Etc.
I know it's a little clunky, but it's simple, easy to explain to someone in a hurry. And if you can tell East from West plus count you can use it. |

Maybe just create a name and a sequential number.
Hard Spawn 1,2,3,4,5, or A,B,C,D... for fixed spawn locations
and
Drop UpLinkyable Spawn 1,2,3 or A,B,C for portable drop links.
So, "spawn to HS1" or "Avoid DU-3" would work.

I'm in full support of a grid overlay on the map:
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=20216
But just thinking about the whole idea of naming things.
Instead of naming things, what if there was an ability for the Squad Leader to "Tag" things.
I know that a squad leader can designate an objective.
But being able to set multiple waypoints and tagging multiple structures or positions could be valuable tactical info.
"Alright everyone, let's take out targets 1, 2 and 4. Hack 3" |

My favorite was last night:
"I'm at B about to bleed out, does anyone have one of those revive things?" "Yeah, where are you?" "I'm at B" "So am I, where are you?" "I'M... AT... B" "WHERE at B? Inside, outside... give me a hint here?" "Nevermind, I bled out"
Even a grid wouldn't help that. Some people just need to learn to communicate better. |

I try not to do this, but read my post. It's basically exactly what you just asked for. |
