Noob Scout here, I would appreciate some tips and tricks
I have quite a bit of experience with Dust, but most of it was from playing as a Sentinel. It's not exactly easy for me to switch from Fat 1600hp Man to Spastic 190hp Skinny Man, and obviously, my combat style ends up killing me 60% of the time. The only thing I really feel good about this class right now is that ISK management is no longer a huge priority.
So, I ask you guys, what are some good fittings and such, or how does certain equipment fit in with this scout thingy? To be honest, one of the biggest factors about scouting for me was the cloak, but now I'm starting to feel iffy about it.
Also, I'm speccing into Minmatar, probably running Novas. |

Well I chose the Caldari Scout, but I think Minmatar is a bit similar since we're shield suits. 3 highs, 2 lows and 3 equipment slots. Mine uses Drop Uplinks and a Nanite Injector, but recently I ditched the injector for more CPU/PG space. I really wasn't getting much revives anyway. I don't use the Cloak Field because it's way too heavy, and it doesn't gkve me WP. Instead of a shotgun I use the ARR and a Flaylock. I'm still fine-tuning my scout so I'm no expert.
For the matari suit you definitely need to use those knives to take advantage of its bonus. I'd try something like this, on a ADV suit:
2 Complex Shield Extenders 1 Complex Myofibril Stimulant (suit melee damage bonus) 1 Codebreaker (suit hacking bonus) 1 Profile Dampener (try to get your scan profile to at least 27 dB )
Light weapon of choice: Since you'll be using Nova Knives I'd have a good medium range weapon instead of the shotgun. Probably the Combat Rifle would suit well here, or the RR.
Sidearm: Nova Knives!
Equipment: Your call. Active Scanner and Drop Uplinks work well on a scout. But you probably want the Cloak Field to hack solitary objectives and close-in with the Nova Knives. Either choice, I don't think it's a good idea to fill all 3 slots with equipment because of the limited CPU/PG. |

Cloak will only be relevant once you get to level 4 and 5 in racial scouts because of fittings. Even then they are a bit of a pain. You have to learn to decloak without the glitch causing you not to switch weapons etc. They are a pain.
In the mean time learn to find cover and move in less obvious paths. That means using less open areas, running around battle areas, finding less direct paths etc. It will be very different than how you ran around before. I recommend watching some scout videos to get an idea.
Dampening is key to scouting. That and speed. Particularly on a Minja. You will want to balance battle needs with your play style. If you can get away with less dampening, good, but understand that the inner rings are killer with knifing. Especially if you are chasing them from behind. It gives them more opportunity to pick you up and counter before you can attack. That was a long explanation to say that you need at least one max dampened fit to fall back on if you are getting scanned.
Myos are also good to have for mobility purposes.
Feel free to stop by the Barbershop in the Locker Room. Not only can we help with questions, but the front page has EWAR data you can look at to plan suits.

I found some youtube videos that you might find helpful yesterday when I was browsing some streak vids both are from C Moody, and while they're a little dated (Thanks to the recent updates in the game itself!) They're still really good learning tools;
Knifing; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhaQm2-g2-8
Minja; (Isn't really a tutorial but lets you see how a Minja can operate if you're careful/team player) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5SkQiBw4Sc
My only suggestions as I rarely play my "Assassin" are; Go for ADV Knives, the basic ones suck! And a good med-long range weapon is highly advised, like the (A)RR or the (A)CR. Get at least 1 Complex profile damp, because people do use their radar and if they're not skilled and/or equipped to scan you, you'll definitely kick some ass (literally!). |
