if you go amarr you can use the laser rifle and (a)ScR, keeping that in mind the suit would be good for suppression and over watch capabilities while maintaining front line reliability, strong armor tank, and destroy any shiled suit and most armor suits fairly fast
but if you go minmatar you have the ability to build the suit almost any way you'd like a speed shotgun build is commonly used in PC from what I have seen as well as being able to stack myofibril simulators for melee/jump advantage as well as being able to be used in combination with you mass drivers to rain down from above
the min assault is the most versatile suit being able to tank both ways as well as be a reliable biotic suit and the fastest of the assault suits, along with its bonus to clip size of combat rifles and smg's it is the best suit for adjusting to any situation while being able to take down armor tanks fairly fast up close or from reasonable distances
I'd say to skill into the Amarr assault if you prefer using laser weaponry, even just two points into it gives you a fair amount of extra shots without overheating making it excellent to use with the aScR and again using the laser rifle with it makes it farily devastating when the heat builds up so you get a few shots that do crazy amounts of damge being able to take down targets before they can react if you preheat and aim for the head
however if you are in need or just want to be able to adjust and adapt to unique situations go with the Min assault first, if shields get buffed then its reasonable to think that the Min assault will be that much stronger and even without shields being buffed you can still take advantage of your armor mods and still be able to stack high slot mods such as myos or damge, even precision mods if you are so inclined
I'd say pick your poison both are fairly good when dealing with both shields and armor being able to compensate for their weaknesses with their respective strengths as well as being capable of doing things the other assault suits cannot, you can get an Amarr assault to have over 1k armor and the min assault can do the most melee damge as well as be the fastest of all the assaults

I tested the links for myself they should all be working so I don't know if its an error on my part or something else
