Start skilling into an advanced assault rail rifle, adv Amarr assault, armor plates, and myofibs. Just to start you off. Later skill into the base armor/shield skills, then kin cats and cardiac regs.

In a scale of gameplay from easy to most frustrating for new players eith an example or two:
Beginner: Destiny
Novice: planetside 2
Intermediate:
Advanced:
Expert:
Nightmare:
Dark Souls while smashing your nads with a hammer: DUST 514
This game is FPS hardmode on top of a few core issues. Newbies run alongside closed beta vets and the disparity between newbies and vets is almost akin to a child with a butterknife trying to fight a spetznaz.
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

Welcome to the toughest FPS you will ever play. This games customization is topnotch, competitive aspect very steong at the higher tiers, and far more social than other games via in game chat channels.
I recommend you find a couple friends to play with as you all struggle along this journey, because you will struggle. Join these chat channels: Learning Coalition

Prepare to:
- Shoot endlessly at someone whose HP doesn't drop because of hit detection
- Get killed by some sniping *******, finding out that he used a rare drop sniper and then proceeding to throw the game in order to hunt him down with a scanner, a dropship and some finesse and destroying his corpse to make sure that will not retain his weapon
- Be happy that you died from remote explosives, because at least they aren't cheap
- Learn that "you have been scanned" is a way of life and that walls aren't enough to hide
- Attempt to fly a dropship. Once or maybe ten times with massive loss of ISK and two months of research on various threads and youtube videos. Only to find out that assault dropships are even worse.
- Random shotgun deaths to complement random sniper deaths
- Kill yourself to deprive the enemy team of experience points during the last minutes of battle
- Finally manage to kill a user of overpowered equipment and overpowered squad play, only to find out that he was using a free suit that you will not ever be able to get because it requires either real money investment or a game mode that non-squad players have no access to
- Spawn as AV, only to die to infantry
- Spawn as AI, only to die to the nearby parked tank
- Get your expensive tanks destroyed by drunk RDV pilots. And sometimes even yourself
- Be unable to scale a railing, unless you use the blue pills, which the community will lynch you for
- Figure out bandwith, damage profiles, the scanning system, how EWAR modules apply, racial playstyles and a bunch of other stuff that is never even remotely explained despite being of huge importance
And remember, in Dust, loss matters. It's not like Planetside where you have quick TTK and just respawn.
No, in Dust your cash will run out while the enemy team uses nanite needless to never use even a single suit. And you will die randomly, even while you are trying to take revenge. There's always an ******* with a cloak and nova knives waiting for you if you are alone.
Dust has the worst combination of addiction and frustration that you can get. Planetside should steal the skillpoint system. |

Don't let everyone scare you..... the game will speak for itself  . there is a lot to learn before you can go rambo, but there are several guides made by players that will help you get there faster. Idk the site but I'm sure someone will link.

Dust's best and worst aspect is that it's very deep with lots of progression.
There's lot's to learn and upgrade, so it's a long road before you get competitive,
but you will have immense capacity to customize your character and playstyle.
To get you over the educational mountain, I'd highly recommend you join the chat channel "Learning Coalition", and send-in an application to "Dust University". :)
Dust is very much the deep-end of the FPS pool.
But if you want something different from the usual FPS or just want a game that demands more from you, this is a very good place for that. ;)

Anything past 5 feet and you're gambling though.
Also I've never had any rendering issues in PS2. Buttery smooth all the way through for me at least.
