I would like to start (another) thread for brainstorming community made names for us immortals. The pilots in Eve Online have Capsuleers. The pilots in Eve: Valkyrie are just that, Valkyrie. We are..... cloners? Mercenaries or mercs? Blah....
Names that I have found so far:
Elysians (Gallente name)
Templars (Ammar name)
Draugr (Minmatar name)
Rasetsu (Caldari name)
Mannequin
Impyrean (Empyreans are Capsuleers)
Immortal Clone Soldiers, or Icys?
Dust bunnies
Dusters
Clone or Cloner
Mercenary or Merc
Consoleers or Consuleers (due to the control consoles we hack (as well as the fact we play on the PS3 "console"))
Thanaions (This is derived from two Greek words. The first part, Than, is that of Thanatos, or death. But since the Gallente carrier in Eve Online is called the Thanatos, we couldn't very well be called that as well. The second part, Aion, is that of Aionios, or eternal. Death Eternal since we are Eternal beings that either give death or receive it.)
I expect a few troll posts to this and look forward to them Give your feedback on your favorites and post your own ideas!

Abbv... I have two voices in my head. One saying "Really? You are a stupid head..." The other saying "That is clever. Why didn't I think of that?" Haha.

GM Archduke wrote:There's a good chance Capsuleers use some slightly derogatory term, like grunt or cannon fodder for example. Mercenary is what actually depicts the best what these immortal soldiers are in New Eden/the game premises. Thanks for the post. Some feedback I've dug up about the term Mercenary from some people is it is too broad. For instance, there are Mercenary corporations in Eve Online that War Dec other corporations because they were hired to do so. So that make us foot soldiers Mercenaries as well as those Eve Online pilots Mercenaries. We are fairly different creatures, yet have the same title or name. But reverse that, we are CERTAINLY not capsuleers due to the lack of a capsule. Also, another gripe I saw was from an Amarr loyalist and lore junkie.
Quote:I grow wary of constantly needing to point out that this "mercenary" label that the New Eden propaganda team had been shoving out is utter garbage and quite frankly an outrage. Quasi-immortality does not break the soul from the divine obligation. That is what he had to say. Basically just because we reach immortality doesn't mean we automatically become guns for hire for just anyone. Don't get me wrong, I value your input. I'm just showing you the other side of the argument.

It's too long, perhaps we can work on an acronym. Yes, acronyms are good.

Mercenary is what actually depicts the best what these immortal soldiers are in New Eden/the game premises. For the most part I agree, but FW loyalists really don't fit the term well. Sure we do. In hind sight I was arguably one of the largest proponents against the term mercenary being generally applied to us..... however thats exactly what we are. We ARE NOT an official part of the factions military forces. We ARE NOT members of the Imperial Guard or Federal Marines. We ARE at best organisations that are contracted by the factional militias and groups as disposable assets. CONCORD pretty much said "boo sucks to your official military being equipped with the most dangerous soldiers in the cluster. It goes forwards politically neutral and commercial or not at all." I agree that the term describes what we do VERY well. But I don't agree it describes what we are. Like I've said before, there are Mercenary Capsuleers as well. It seems weird we would be Mercenary Mercenaries. Our immortal species has been named after an already existing profession. It does not make us unique even though we are very unique. Anyone can be a Mercenary, mortal or immortal. Capsuleer or foot soldier. DUSTIES is as close as we have to a unique name for just ourselves. Guess I will have to live with that.

Wouldn't be entirely bad to have more than one term, as that provides a breadth of culture and application. Having something longer/more formal and something more bite sized/lower syllable count. Personally I'd lean toward Thanaions for the formal and Bennu (or some conjugation there of) for the more common use case. This also provides some interesting context and interplay between the implications/interactions of each term. 0.02 ISK An excellent snip of information as always, Mr. Atu! This is exciting for me because I've never had a GM OR CPM comment on one of my post. Now if I can just get a Blue tag in here I would have the trifecta of tags in here!
Also, I will be editing the OP soon with all the different naming ideas in here. Troll or not.
