tl;dr I had a bad match with some idiot squadmates who were vehemently against actually being a team.
I just got out of a couple of FW matches in a squad of randoms and we were doing okay-ish. Could have done much better, but okay. Literally everyone had a microphone but no one was talking.
We lose a few times, win once, one of our squaddies suggests in the squad chat we split up the gang to cover ground and (look for clues) hack objectives rather than keeping all eight of our guys huddled on A all match, something we were doing just to stick together because no one had laid out a plan yet, and the other eight of the rest of the team split up in tiny or solo groups trying to do everything else, and I suggest someone should mic up to take control so we can coordinate. Another squaddie, apparently a friend of the squad lead, tells us 'if you want to go out and hack other objectives you should just do it yourself. We won that match without the squad lead saying a word. You mic users need to learn how to play the ******* game'. So apparently this is a squad of solo players, squad lead refuses to drop orbitals because 'it's too easy to hit allies' and used the squad commands all of three times through five matches, and squaddie 2 thinks people who use mics drink their own **** and kick puppies or something.
So enter next match and we're up against a squad of Prima Gallicus, I think is how you spell it. I'm irritated with squaddie 2 so I tell them 'Hey, a squad that doesn't communicate versus a squad that does communicate. I wonder who'll win?'
We lose hard. Our MCC is almost destroyed but we're cloned out first. And according to squaddie 2 it's my fault we lost because I apparently spent the entire match typing out that message rather than helping. And while it's flattering squaddie 2 thought we would have won if I had been the shining hero of the story, I actually was out there trying my best. Literally every death of mine was to a group of three or more Primas. I don't think a non-Prima ever got me. I never even got sniped, but there was definitely someone trying. To be fair, if we had a stronger hold on the objectives it would have been a very close match. Opposing team's MCC was at a little over half armor. But we were still a team of solos going against a strong killing squad.
Long story short, it's just confusing as **** that you would start up or join a squad if you have no intention of actually being in a squad. Literally talking down to anyone that suggests communication or teamwork or, ugh, tactics. You don't get any benefit. You're just running solo with green dots instead of blue dots. It's not like our squad lead used the orbitals we earned for him. At all, even on a place completely devoid of blues but thriving in reds. So why even squad?

Pretty much.
Stuff like that really "grinds my gears" and I won't tolerate that at all.
I actually had a match like that yesterday in a random squad. Everyone had mics and only one other person talked to me. Everyone seemed to be holding their Richard in their hands while I tried to singlehandedly take out their team; I laid uplinks, hacked letters, defended said letters, AV, tank to destroy two other tanks in a row (and I'm a HORRIBLE tanker) all the while a random blue tried to help but horrifically failed -- and no green dot in sight. Holy **** that was a painstakingly horrific match.
Towards the end, the one green berry tried coordinating with me, but at that point it was a moot effort.
Ended with me at the top of the leaderboard with 3K or so WPs
Crap like that just drives me up the wall. I'd rather just solo at that point since I could probably get the same or better results.

People can just be a55holes is the simple answer to the OP and is 80% accurate,
However you did seem to be exposed to unusually high concentration of assholes, Why did this happen I would guess the some of the teamchat was misinterpreted by the team members as whining and things just escalated.
I occasionally join squads to increase my chance of getting in a match, I have no interest in actually talking to
the other players when I am in a game, I really enjoy talking to people in the real world if I am making jokes or actually
getting something done.
I assume some people join squads because they want to win not because they want team play

I don't talk much anymore because 99% of the people who I used to squad with regularly and who I would actually call my friends don't play anymore. This combined with dust being kind of a dull addiction lately makes me not want bother trying to be social. Maybe if I could squad with people who are actually cool instead of raging children, or hyper dust nerds that talk about fits and/or tactics every waking second...

I usually off placing links at the beginning of a match then ill switch suits and join my squad when finished. I'm not a leader so i don't mind following orders so you can bet that it will get done. I don't understand why people dont like tactics & working as a team. Or if you dont like staying with a group if there's 6-8 of you split off into 2man teams & hold a letter together (personal favorite).
Just SOMETHING instead of just wandering around. Another thing, cause i cant speak well i use squad order usually hack this defend this not much but i try to be consistent. And people dont follow them. You want me to lead but you don't want to follow the limited orders i can give.

One of our new corpmates complained about the same thing.
He got picked up by a top corp and ran in a full group but they never acted like squads. He enjoys the game more now and his stats are awesome.
Idk why one would shy away from cooperation and coordination in a game like DUST. If you cover my back and I cover yours we will at least laugh when I stand on the core you dodged.
It's hard to beat up hundreds of armor piercing bullets using only your face...

This post rather readily sums up why I am viciously opposed to automatically being put into a squad when I run solo. I can do more damage being a dopey wrecking ball than some entire squads of randumbs can through an entire match of not coordinating with each other.
Plus I don't want ro hear the voice of the guy who just took the drivers seat of my LAV going "get in I'm driving" before or after I put a bolt pistol round through his forehead in facwar.

Once upon a time I joined a squad finder squad, played ambush.
They placed uplink in small building. They tried that tactic with logi and heavy combo and they were failing miserably so I tried to place links somewhere where we would not be trapped and keep dying and possibly regroup. At the end of the match they went negative I had the most kills and least deaths. Yet they blamed me for "going out side".
You will run into people who don't know wth they are doing or want to do.
I cut you up so bad.... You gonna wish I no cut you up so bad.

@OP, I stopped reading pretty early on in your post. Do you mean those that squad up, but don't play as a team (whether you talk or not is kind of whatever in certain situations)? If so, I share your pain. I have a few buds who never listen to the squad leader and play the game like they would Super Mario Sunshine.
It's pretty "meh", but in Factional, I'm actually pretty serious about it, especially when I'm squad lead. It's one of the reasons why I don't like having lead in the first place.
Squads are for chatting, anyways most of the time, except a few other people that use actual chat rooms as intended.

Yeah, people who squad up but don't team play. Just running around solo with green dots instead of blue dots. And this happened in a factional, which is one of the reasons I was bothered by it. The people who suggested coordinating being talked down to because 'we did fine one match, you all just need to get good' was another reason, as if a team effort in a team based game is a bad thing only scrubs do. |

Better a squad that doesn't do anything as a team than one that tries badly. Being in a squad that basically runs like a bunch of lone wolfs is no worse than going solo, with the potential bonus of squad commands if they use them for extra WP. The worst groups are those that try, but suck at it so bad all they do is get their own team killed. Stuff like 'everyone defend B' is usually a horrible idea now with squads of 8 in FW. Half the team on one objective is never going to end well, about the only matches you could possibly win are the 3 objective matches if your blue berry's can at least handle the other point.
No orbitals is another thing, better nothing than bad ones. I hate getting OB'ed at the end of the match by my own team just because some prick is chasing kills. Friendly fire on OB's is fine if it's to win the match, defending some key objective. But if it's the end of the match and they have no chance of winning I don't like to die just so some idiot can get one or two enemy kills for their stat padding.
