Single player is great. Online is fun, but requires some balancing. Melee range is too long, and Walker Gears can destroy teams, spawning is pretty ****** too, spawned right behind an enemy, and with the game's spawn protection it's even worse.
Just needs some balancing. |

Metal Gear Online (3) is the third iteration is is available with the purchase (as of now) of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It is it's own separate multiplayer mode that is not related to the FOB invasion multiplayer.
MGO3 has a cap of 16 players per team, with conditions suitable for long range, mid range (most common), and close quarters combat. Upon starting MGO you will be forced to use your avatar created in the beginning of the main story mode until you reach level 6, on the brightside, level 6 does not take too long. I've already reached level 4 with around 2 or 3 full rounds played.
Upon starting MGO3, you can choose from a selection of clothing available to you to dress your avatar the way you want, as well as a class. There are three classes with a stereotypical niche. Scouts are equipped with Night Vision, and have access to long range weapons, enforcers that can use rocket launchers, and heavy machine guns (later on), and infiltrators, the class the I do not know much about other than they are equipped with Stealth Camo that can be used freely (but probs has a recharge). There are 3 character slots that are usable, and the characters created can be either male or female. Facial and voice customization then occurs. After a character is created, you enter Free Roam; a small outpost that you can explore, and warm up if need be, akin to the "Merc Quarters'.
During free roam you can run around, practice riding the walker gears (Bi-pedal mechs with gatling guns attached to it). You can enter your main menu from the iDroid, and can search for a specific lobby match, or be matched up at random.
Party system: The party system is not explained, but on the PS4, hosting a PS4 party (E.g. voice chat) the players in the party are automatically lumped together as a 'party', and must toggle to 'ready' from the in game party feature. The leader will then deploy into a match and those who are ready will join right in. A player may still attempt to join if not pulled in.
Quote:New to this iteration of Metal Gear Online is the "buddy" system which allows two players to salute each other in order to pair up. This allows players to assist their buddy, as whenever the buddy is aiming at an enemy that enemy is temporarily marked on the screen. Furthermore, buddies share a gauge that when at 50% allows one buddy to spawn on another and when at 100% allows the use of the E-RB WORMHOLE GEN. which permits one buddy to teleport directly to another.
MY EXPERIENCE.
The game play is pretty fluid and a bit slower than the trailers showed (Which is a good thing). The TTK is pretty low for body shots, and the game is no longer based around trying to get a headshot, however, during high level play, HSs' may be the optimal way to kill.
My first few games have been littered with stealth camo players who run around shooting (stealth still enabled), and CQCing players for a cheap knock out. This has inspired me to create a Scout. The scout's NVG act as a hard counter to the stealth camo because the stealthed player will still appear on screen highlighted with heat signatures.
The Walker gear is overpowered at the moment. The movement speed is high, as well as turn around speed. The kill angles are limited, from easy to hard are: Behind, sides, above, and in front.
Marking enemies is important. by equipping the binoculars for a brief amount of time while looking at an enemy, the enemy will be tagged on the mini map with a hard red triangle, and the name will be displayed in dark red font on the screen. After marking 2 players, a majority of my team opened fire.
Buddies are meh with strangers, but in a party with mics, they are essential. especially if you move in pairs. My friends and I moved as a trio so we could typically outnumber enemies, and avoid being knocked out by stealth camo users (We all chose enforcers.)
I didn't have much time today, just about 2 hrs to play. At first it takes some getting used to, I would say a bit more if you came from Metal Gear Online (2), but after a few games, the game provides a slightly faster arcadey squad / tactical shooter than MGO2 provided.
As with most games, vocal communication with friends is important for success.

Being able to Fulton an enemy in the TDM game mode and instantly turn the tides of battle is a nice twist to your standard just shoot everything that moves TDM.
I only got to play for an hour or 2 but it was good times.

The struggle is real. I'm at 51% but I made a huge mistake. Apperently, if you cancel an operation that includes that Gear Walker in the mission - the gear walker is destroyed, leaving you permanently ******. w t f
