All of the people except the elites, the vets, the known corps, have left the game. The only people to play against are the same old no-lifers and try-hards and also generally decent players.
Matchmaking will never work, we don't have enough players! This could have been fixed if new players were separated from vets in the first place. Do you wonder why you have no one to play against? Do you wonder why it's always n00bs on one team and vets on the other? Because nobody plays DUST anymore.
Did you think you could roll in a proto squad forever and people wouldn't quit playing?
Here's the idea, CCP didn't want to separate players because then there is no incentive for those new players to purchase PRO level AUR items to compete, they wouldn't have to.
So due to the player's selfishness of constant stomping on new players and due to CCP's greed to milk those new players, we don't have any! It's the same people again and again and again. A lot of you here know the playerbase well enough to bet real money on how the game will play out, you know who's going to win before you even spawn.
I quit a game if the objective is red and there are no blues around it within the first 5 minutes, but then it's back to the long queue times, then I'm often put in the exact same circumstances again! It's a vicious cycle of boredom and I end up turning the game off. Sometimes I've played for 2 hours+ and realised I don't even have my keys yet!
So I quit 2 games today because there was ZERO purpose to them other than padding people's stats and further diminishing the playerbase, I try a third game and what happens? Every single person on my team is in an NPC corp, yet I'm against Random Gunz and a whole squad of Prima Gallicus.
They took the point before I got out of the MCC!
That right there is the mark of a DEAD GAME, when I have to quit game after game yet every single match is the same as the last one, one-sided and boring as hell.
Don't hope for any kind of matchmaking it's too late for that.
I know some people reading here cannot even bring themselves to turn the bloody Playstation on, because they know what will happen.

Many times I've had matches that were bad in the beginning but my team ended up winning. |

there are plenty of new players around, there is also a lot of players that previously quit for whatever reason that have come back
there are enough randoms that I get placed with new people almost every match
the daily population of dust has increased slightly from the average that we previously had
new player experience is getting better and they have more resources available to learn the game
Dust is not dead otherwise people like you wouldn't have to make stupid threads like this one to try and justify your views

          Dear OP,
Quiting will not solve your problems. Finding better solutions to your gameplay will. Find a squad (squad finder?), make efriends (the type that will shoot you in the face and proceed to explain you how and why they did it) and start to learn to turn matches around. Maybe with smart objective hacks, maybe with clones... whatever! During the process you'll find that whinning less and HTFU helps. Being stomped every once in a while is good for the ego. It keeps it at a manageable size!
Good luck, get at it already.

I'm breaking my hiatus to comment on this.
You're all failing to realize that Count's experience is different from yours. How he gets shafted match after match, may not happen to you because you may roll in squads of tryhards.
He said before that it's usually him and a full team of randoms vs at least one PRO squad. That also happened to me more often than not when I was playing.
CCP is in business to make money. They need to balance that with doing proper game balance. Thing is, if the game were to be properly balanced, ie. keeping those new away from PRO players for a while, then player retention would be much higher. How many of those couple hundred 'new players created in the last hour' are those still gaming the system for a pittance in ISK, vs actual legitimate accounts from people that are new to the game? We don't know what turnover and retention are, because CCP will never let that information out.
As far as CPM2 elections... it's essentially a joke. Yes-men are going to get elected, and those same yes-men are at all times against vehicles. Yes, I will continue to defend vehicles, despite me admitting I haven't played in months. Not as if those against vehicles play on any regular basis.
To reiterate, his experience is different from yours, which is what you seem to not understand.

There are many newer players here since a large portion of the original playerbase finally wised up to how CCP operates and left. Being a f2p game, there will always be new players trickling in.
All this ignorant fresh blood is great for CCP since most of thing have no idea how things actually work around here, so they still have the stars in their eyes. Poor little noobs. It's fine though, this ship will chug along for a long time because people are cheap and this is a feel good shooter because it's one of the easiest to stomp in.
As far as potential goes, this game died a very long time ago. Unless Legion lives in a secret base somewhere deep underground, the DUST IP is little more than an interesting musing.

They are pretty much unbeatable when I play against them.

Dust is pretty dead, in my opinion. Just look at the numbers of people online at any given time in Dust. What is it? Around 2.5k players? It used to be almost twice that last year.

How can you say Dust is dead if you quit matches long before they are done? Many times I've had matches that were bad in the beginning but my team ended up winning. Back in my day, people only left matches when a squad member didn't get in, or it was a redline stomp 75% of the game through. Dust is pretty dead, in my opinion. Just look at the numbers of people online at any given time in Dust. What is it? Around 2.5k players? It used to be almost twice that last year.

Still though, pop in medal of Honor or BioShock 2, any fps that's over a year old, and check out multi.
2500 is serious impressive for a three year old game on ps3.

I know some people reading here cannot even bring themselves to turn the bloody Playstation on, because they know what will happen.

dust will never die how dare you say such a thing, there are more than enough player even though having some more would be fun. match making is the problem half of scotty's brain is in hibernation. and i often get 16 vs 16 so i dont understand what the problem is stop crying on the forums i think DUST HAS A LONGER LIFE SPAN THAN YOU DUE TO THIS THREAD
i kind off like fighting some of the same people again, helps to establish competition and friends and foe. if those people are better than you it increases your skill.

Yeah all the elite vets are gone, but the real vets who want this game to live on and succeed are still here.
Also this is a time where we need to embrace the new faces and encourage them to become the new elites. Sure we won't see the skill of some of the past players but who cares. Its a game. Let these players develop. It will pay off.

I have to disagree. DUST 514 is not dead, just because some are not playing DUST 514 right now, it doesn't mean they are going to stop playing it. Many have to work, and sometimes buy new video games for their PC and Consoles and play the their games until they finish it. I play solo and sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. When I need to play professional I do a lot of Hacking and using Drop Uplinks so players can spawn. If I need to destroy the CRU I will lose many tanks because sometimes you don't get any help support, but at least we win. But they are other times I just want to play for the fun of it and will just go out shooting and trying to destroy any vehicle, tanks, aircraft and sometimes I will go up against more than 5 enemies and start shooting with my Assault Rifle and Plasma Cannon with my Commando Amarr. I mean if you want to win almost all the time, then your need to recruit people you know to join your Squad or Corporation. DUST 514 is not dead because it that was true, then how come we are getting new updates and they also listen to the community of DUST 514, eventually DUST 514 later on will move to PC as Project Legion or and this is just a rumor, that it may be port to PlayStation 4 and PC. This is just rumors, but I do wish CCP will say something about this rumors. So DUST 514 is not dead and will never died, but if that would ever happen, CCP would sell the rights to Sony, just because there is already a fan base there. So DUST 514 is more alive right now. Sometimes I don't play DUST 514 and sometimes I do, but that's because I have to work in Nights and also play my other video games for my PS4 and PC. So just because sometimes there are less people playing DUST 514 online, it doesn't mean people lost interest. I just wish CCP would Integrate Factional with Skirmish, then it will feel more realistic and more integrated with EVE Online players from PC. |

So I have to disagree. Dust is not dead nor is it dying. Matchmaking is just being stupid and making it seem that way :/

Im still hoping that Dust comes to PS4. The game still has life and so much potential.
Bottom line, Dust is awesome and it can get better. I just want it to go to another platform so they can expand upon their ideas.
