So IGÇÖve been playing HELLDIVERS for quite some time and they use a simple system for operating heavy vehicles (The HAV and APC in particular) 1 person drives, 1 person mans the main gun, 2 people operate the left and right machine guns. In a four person group this works well as each person has a role and specific job they focus on. Since the squad size has been brought down to 4 people I figure this would be beneficial to the new squad size as it eliminates the odd man out doing something else, everyone in the squad can join in. |

I've seen calls like this before and I think for Helldivers a model like this works especially because vehicles in that game allow a the four man team fire power vastly greater than arguably anything else deployable......saving perhaps four mechs with dual assault cannon.
However in a game like Dust I am simply not sure that it really has a place. In most situations I'm simply convince that it is not worth commiting two rifles to the functionality of one vehicle that rarely finds opportunity to influence the balance of objectives since now most if not all are completely enclosed inside sockets or have blocked lines of sight.
Moreover.....it's simply not enjoyable game play as I see it. You relegate vehicle pilots essentially to infantry roles unless they can gang press players into allowing them to run their vehicles which unless you have a regular few players (up to four in this case) willing to sacrifice their infantry time for you is unlikely to happen.
I'm not discounting the idea since it is interesting and I agree that vehicles should act as vehicles that benefit from team play however I've yet to hear a convincing argument as to why taking the fundamental operation of fire control away from the pilot is a necessary change. Especially when tanks do not even function like tanks, are not currently balanced, and so many other examples of modern FPS shooter can incorporate them within the balance of infantry combat.

Maybe if we had larger teams I could see this, but as-is, even a single HAV operator going solo can be a major drain on a team's objective seizing capabilities

well my hope is that if moved to ps4 or pc, they would bump the player count up to 32v32, but first you need a reason to. |

As a team game I think people need to get out of the mindset of solo-ing. people need to work and coordinate together more, this isn't CoD. The first step is by making more of the game team based, get vehicles as team assets, and get more equipment for logis that focus on multi-person abilities. Heck letGÇÖs make a cloak that only scouts can equip that can cloak teammates if they stand within 5 meters of it and don't move. letGÇÖs create equip-able auras that do things like boost damage output based on how many people in the (squad only) are in the aura, or ones that boost rep rates of shields or armor, or even RoF, heat buildup, scan range, etc.
The point is, that if this game is to be sold as a team based game, it needs those elements that separate it from CoD or BF. Just doing the same thing is just going to make the game fall into obscurity.

As a tank driver since beta, I would say that this can ONLY work with a high amount of coordination. A fireteam can all pile into one tank and attack BUT it would only be effective to those that care. Make it optional and people would love it more.

But I would like to see more risk to solo tanking by giving a moderate nerf to the main cannon and a HUGE buff to the small turrets (with full 360-degree view)...Tanks should require a minimum of two players to be truly dominant instead of this silliness we're seeing now... |
