Yep, bandwidth is only a problem if you're abusing the obvious and overlooked exploit in the fact that you can place equipment, then change suit (I know every single player does this, but it is actually simply exploiting broken game mechanics for our benefit). Bandwidth was a stupid solution, just make equipment disappear if the suit that dropped it dies or switches out. It's simple and fair and the only people that oppose this idea are ones that are completely accustomed to a broken mechanic that should never have been allowed to exist in the first place. If you want to use equipment you should have to sacrifice CPU/PG to do so, as with modules and weapons. There should be no work-around that allows you to use more stuff than your suit allows. I completely disagree with your premiss. The ability to change fits to adapt to a changing situation is one of the great things about DUST. Bandwidth prevents the ability to unfairly exploit equipment in this manner. It solves the problem.

But there is a real pain point if you play Sentinel exclusively, are running solo, and non of the Blueberries on your team are placing Uplinks, particularly if you don't have a BPO LAV. Gee Fox, if there was only some kind of heavy dropsuit that could fit a lot of weaponry, maybe it would be slightly faster than a sentinel but not as tanky... it would really COMMAND a firefight, you know? It would have an equipment slot too! Man... I just wish we had that dropsuit. Dang wouldn't that be swell? Heresy!
Besides, if I am dropping my Sentinel suit to place uplinks, then I am switching to a suit with at least 2 equipment slots. The idea of setting an Uplink without a Remote Explosive on top of it is just blasphemous!

As a solo player, I need to play nanni for the entire team.
This means constantly hopping roles. I only ever use my Sentinel suits if I'm sure that all my equipment has been destroyed and only use my Scout as an "emergency stealth uplink placement" fit, because Scouts have hilariously low bandwith values now. I used to have a "starter" Scout suit, which had dual uplinks equipped. Now I had to change it to a Basic Light suit, which is actually an improvement, I guess, as that's at least one role that the Basic is useful for.
Bandwith itself isn't the biggest issue for me. The big issue is lack of any bandwith UI. Checking bandwith while building a fit is obnoxious, as it's only visible in the "show info" screen for suits, at the very end. And bandwith during a match is even worse. I never know if my drop uplink has already disappeared and if placing a nanohive just removed an earlier piece of equipment or not. It gets even worse when I get out my anti-tank Commando, with its proximity explosives. Total confusion as to how much bandwith is left and how many of my items are still on the field instead of getting shorted out.
Also, I'm pretty baffled as to why equipment still have limitations of how many of a type can be active at the same time. It adds unnecessary management and an unnecessary edge to higher-level equipment, while simply doing something that the bandwith mechanic already does well enough on its own. Then again, having a limit per type does help if I want to "erase" a piece of equipment because I don't want to override, for example, an uplink with a nanohive. Really, the ability to remove equipment is just as important as having an actual UI for it and markers for my own equipment. |

I miss seeing hive-boobs in the redlines, but not enough to do away with bandwidth. I would love different colors for deployed equipment but only see the need for 2 - blue & green. No need for a yellow for your deployed equipment.

Why would I want to run light weapons?
All you people can gloat all you want, but my point is clear that it is a pain in the ass to be a solo heavy in this game. It may be a pain to run solo, but it can't be beat with a good logibro as back up.
When was the last time you read "grrr scouts and logis" or "grrr assaults and logis"?
Never, thats when. Heavies and logis are the most dangerous and effective pairing in Dust.
