I was poking about on the SDE earlier and worked out that laser rifles had a RoF of 750rpm / 12.5rps... which I believe puts them well above rail rifles in terms of damage per magazine, range and general damage output (std rail is 360ish something neutral dps, arr is 380ish), especially after it's fired about 30-40 rounds.

An amarr assault has a burn time of 6.4 seconds (80 rounds @ 12.5rounds/sec), and laser damage formula is dmg = base dmg + (scalar * # of shots fired consecutively).

Scalar = .85 on basic, to 1.10 on proto (adv should be right in the middle of basic / pro, not sure what officer scalar is).

So at 35 rounds (2.8s of fire) on a basic LR, the LR is doing 46.75 damage (roughly matching the RR's 47, assuming neutral profile & no proficiency), every round fired from that point on only increases LR damage even further... and this is on a gun that doesn't disperse or kick.

Quite a good weapon.

I'd work out a dps chart type thing, but I'm not an excel wizard... I last used it like 10 years ago.

I do think that the suits should have a cooling module like the tanks. Then HMG, Ion Pistol, and Laser can fire non-stop if you are soft. Point counter point stances.

BTW - The SCR does not need any help with heat. It needs more heat considering it never over heats.

But this IS pretty scary?! In open fields it's a fierce weapon with all that range, but it is no good in cqc.

Now if they could figure that out about the scrambler.... the cqc part...

Because it's not easy to use. The really lethal people with an LR are the people who have used it nonstop for a couple years now. Viktor hadah comes to mind.

Actually beat him in a laser duel. Once. The other six times he thoroughly kicked my ass. Was fun as hell.

at least I don't need to run FOTM / FOTB or myofibs(cough) to be good. besides Laser rifle acts as a great counter to heavy/logi combo. that and I;'ve been in love with my winsaer since it was introduced back pre-chromosome...........we all know those times. insta killing beams for redline to redline......am I right?
