If I were a newbro today, the one thing most likely to keep me coming back for more is a feeling of progress. What do you think about accelerating early career advancement? In my mind, getting our newbros battle-ready faster couldn't hurt, especially if it keeps them around long enough for Dust to set its oft addictive hooks. Below is an old idea along those lines; would love to hear your thoughts:
* Kill a merc with more SP than you, receive a small bonus to EOM SP earnings. * Kill a merc with substantially more SP than you, receive a substantial bonus to EOM SP earnings. * Kill a merc in higher meta gear than yours, receive a small Isk bonus EOM. * Kill a merc in substantially higher meta gear than yours, receive a substantial Isk bonus EOM.
Given enough time and activity, newbros would begin to close the experience and wealth gap which separates them from veterans. This could make for rapid, activity-focused and performance-driven career advancement. Along these linesGǪ We've seen that Daily Missions can be persistent. Could newbros benefit from stacked missions with high payouts of both ISK (for skill books) and SP? This way they will see progress on these persistent missions, which has a positive effect on experience, but they could be discontinued once they have achieved each goal. Missions could include X kills X WP X Objectives X Installations All of these totalling enough bonus SP and ISK to help close the new player gap, and still encouraging learning the facets of the game. I like the concept of persistent missions. Instead of daily or weekly missions, new players should start off with at least a handful of persistent missions that will continue until the new player completes all of them. Once they completed these persistent missions, they would get a free non-tradeable respec item. They would then graduate automatically from the academy and move on to the pub/FW matches. My recommendations: Hack 75 installations Kill 100 enemies Hack 25 objectives Get 50 kill assists Travel 100,000 meters Join and Complete 25 matches Pretty much what I had in mind, though I had thoughts of continuity after the Academy with scaling rewards as players gain a handle on concepts. If Dust had a lifetime set of awards they could help toward new player advancement with one time earnings of SP, ISK, LR exp, LP or Skillbooks. Tailor the reward to the action that unlocks it to keep things intuitive and it becomes a teaching tool as well as a bit of a mini-game. Glad to see this staying on the radar.
A one time respec upon graduating the academy would certainly be useful and I doubt it would pose a tech problem either (but as ever that's not certain until a Dev says so of course).
If we could establish an ISD style program it would do wonders to have universal help chats, or clearly marked training squads for the newbros.
Corp advertising is something that's been looked into but there are some unexpected sever side tech issues that forced it to the back burner AFAIK, I believe it has something to do with features that were being rebuilt EVE side, price of a shared universe I suppose.
Heartily agree with the OP regarding fittings info and UI. The new progression system is a boon compared to Dust without it but added functionality such as a compare feature would take that further.
Simple PvE would also help, allowing newbros the chance to test their fits and tactics in a less chaotic environment and giving trainers a more controlled context in which to teach.
Auto-squad seems useful, it could even be worthwhile game wide so long as players retained the option to turn it off.
+1 to the OP, NPE is fundamental to game health and deserves priority status.
CPM 1, reelection platform here.
