From my perspective, the match played very smoothly for the first half and seemed to degrade from that point forward. Toward the end, my screen was refreshing about once per second and I was unable to even open menus. Found the lag to be equally bad both inside and outside the city. Spawned in our ground spawn at the very end of the match to try to get the warbarge menu up; it was even laggy way out there with no one else around.
Here's a non-lagging perspective from character J0LLY R0G3R playing in 480p: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zqVP-3SmFYUnfortunately I don't have a comms log but I'm not sure how helpful our collective bitching about lag would be, anyway.
Here is the same match from my perspective. I didn't notice many problems either...though you will have to say whether you think the frame rates I saw were good / bad / whatever. |

Guess what outpost that relates to.

Need a monster theory from Keeriam that we can prove.
[edit] The problem wouldn't actually be with the hard drive, just that there is a bottleneck with IO caused by poor design or a giant dirty subtle bug.
I was sitting on a static menu yesterday, 10 minutes after switching on the PS3. Only on-screen movement was flashing chat channel icons. The hard drive light was *constantly* flickering, I'd guess an average 50% load. There is no reason for that much activity in that situation.
If that is the baseline for just having the DUST client loaded, no wonder things start falling over without having to do too much else.

Did you guys do something that means the hard drive is accessed constantly? |

Some people say it does help. A vid in this very thread shows you someone playing at a lowered resolution without any frame rate issues, in the same match that others couldn't play because the frame rate got so bad.

If you need the first half just let me know I still have it saved. The factional is all there just because you might catch a glimpse of the players as i was in fact hit with the end of battle screen freeze on that one. Anyways hope it helps and if you need anymore battles captured just let me know i can easily capture those super bad frame rate battles. Both vids are unlisted and only visible here. Once again I am using a brand new ps3 not even 2 months old its a slim and has a 500GB hard drive.
Ok I might be noob, but I am not seeing any severe frame rate drops in your Dom footage. The only time I notice it is when you choose to spawn at your home CRU and walk to the objective, just after you send the laaaaaaaaag chat message.
It may be that as the one playing, it was more apparent to you as it happened, but that vid gets nowhere near some of the frame rate issues others have reported.
[edit] You have however given me some ideas as to how to try and recreate the issue, though as I rarely get the problem myself that might be easier said than done. Tempted to dig out the old hard drive and use that, because I do think the HD is relevant. |

The thing is I use a 500gb hard drive and thats usually the worst lagg I get and I only get lag like that when I play against certain corps or players.. the ps3 is only 2 months old so I expect top quality. Which is why my frame rates dont look as bad as ones you have seen in this thread. With all that said why do I never have frame rate issues when playing against a new academy recruit teams, only certain corps and certain players, which makes me say HMMMMMMMM to that hard drive aspect.
Hehe I say HMMMMMMM to the hard drive aspect because my hard drive is under a constant 50% load 10 minutes after booting up and whilst looking at a static menu. That shouldn't happen.
Also look at what Leovarian said above - more people doing more things means more load. Someone even suggested the other day that sending loads of mail to the enemy team whilst waiting in the PC warbarge can cause issues for the enemy team. Didn't specify whether that would cause frame rate issues or latency (lag) issues but the fact that someone is thinking about it may mean others are actually doing it, whether it works or not.
PC players actually have a ritual they observe before PC involving all sorts of mad ideas, from rebooting PS3, to deleting all fits, clearing out mail, sacrificing goats, etc, etc. The problem has been around long enough that our actions to alleviate it could even be causing it. But I digress. |
