When I was still in Uptown456, I personally coordinated PC battles, recruitment, foreign corp relation, basic in corp economics and other micro management things. I did it since Flako wasn't going to be responsible for any of it. But I disagree with Viktor on the part where players bandwagon. Sure there will be those that are fair weather friends but your core players, players that become your friends, will always remain loyal. If at any moment Flako returns, I will join back with Uptown456 since I grew roots into it. Corp hopping bandwagoners will also have roots with a certain corp.
Most players that bandwagon are usually just trying to rekindle a certain bond that they lost. Their first corp and their first friends. Ancient Exiles, D3LTA FORC3, 0uter.Heaven, Uptown456, Kill-em-Quick. All these corps were at first just friends coming together to get to where they're going together. I commend 501st since he has a goal in mind and will hopefully follow through with it. Though some of us might never meet up with our old friends and recreate our first corps but at 501st wants to bring back his friends with his project. That is a commendable feat. Everyone has their home, and everyone has feelings left diminished here in this game. A lot of times I'll read threads and want to post right away but I've learned to finish reading the whole thread in order to stay relevant. I'm breaking my rule.
Maximus makes some very good points here. And, given that this is the War Room and the people who still read stuff here are the same people I've played this game with for the past few years, I'd like to explain my motivation with this campaign.
I've never met 501st. I'm never 'met' or played directly with most of you. But we all inspire and motivate each other in this game. Either competively through PC, gun game, forum warrioring, whatever - or - cooperatively through corporations, ringing, elite comradery, etc.
But 501st general discussion post heralding this idea struck a nerve in me. I could tell he was on to the underlying issue with PC (and thereby with DUST in general). It's boredom, apathy and lack of excitement that is draining this game even while it's in about the best place development-wise as it has been.
I want to see if we (the player base) could do something ourselves to change the status quo.
We can use PCU data from EVEOFFLINE to measure our results, but we will use our personal satisfaction and desire to play as the best meter of success.
Let's give this a try. Let's raise a huge enemy (the Dark Side, the Empire, whatever) to fight the establishment.
People respond to stories and I like to tell them. I like to motivate people with words. But actions are what sustain big things.
And people can and will act upon what they believe in.
You guys believe in DUST or you wouldn't still be here. Same as me. Let's do something different and give it hell.
